I have never lifted a truck before and everyone is telling me to do a 3 inch lift and 33" tires. I'm sure there is a million opinions on how and what and all that. All I want is a nice looking lift and a good size tire than will not rub or at least not too bad... is there a thread that explains all this?

3” max and 285/70 but will rub. 275/70 will do quite fine. If you really want to do 3” and 33” tires you will need to have the shop do a cab chop and some minor fender/plastic work.

You can also look at 255/85/16 or 255/80/17 to get a real 33 in a skinny.

A better compromise to the 275/70/17 is a 255/75/17, comes in a better tire selection and can be had in C load. Plugged into a tire size calculator and you'll see they're almost exactly the same diameter but much lighter due to the width.

"Stance" with a skinny tire can be adjusted with a new wheel offset or a wheel spacer.

Not 3" but a Full OME lift, click here for the details. Rubbing was there but it can all be addressed.

So many choices for a lift it gets kind of mind numbing. Stay away from spacers. Ome or a coilover is best i think I run 255/80/17 w/ome no rubbing or cutting required. Toytec a great option also.
