What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Yup, mine looked similar but not as dry as I kept trying to pump grease into it every so often.

On U-Joints, in general, if they are greasible... I wouldn't be too worried about the "quality" of them - If I was touring/expeditioning I suspect I would be carrying an extra anyways - dropped driveshafts are no fun and a U-Joint takes up no space. The center carrier bearing, from what everyone has written, not difficult to change either.

The only other alternative seems to be Spicer, but at 3x the price having a hard time justifying that for 6 U-Joints in the driveshafts. Maybe it is other models/years that have the Cardon Joint, but on mine the 2 U-Js looked 100% changeable.

A side question for all - anyone load/carry a motorcycle in their bed? I think the main reason I wanted to pull the lift out of mine was to make it easier/safer to load my Rebel (~350lbs) in. The GD ass-end is still sticking up, now I've taken the tailgate off and the effing 6ft tri-fold ATV ramp wants to fold up bc of the hitch/license plate recess on the bumper. I don't want to have to drive around looking for a ditch/hill/berm to load/unload all the time, nor dump the Rebel on or off me. #frustrated

 

I don't. But also don't care if someone is willing to take that risk themselves to save literally 30-40 bucks. Plenty of evidence as to why not too.

Either way. Long as they are inspected regularly if used hard then no problems. Crawling at the mall..probably won't notice a difference

Thanks - that seems to be more '95-99 and I have "outside clip type" in my '03. Still don't see the 3rd zerk in the middle.

 

Anybody used the Dupli-Color perfect match paint to paint match? I'm wanting to paint match my rear bumper but afraid it won't match exactly. I would be using the 040 Super White 2 from what I've researched. Also don't want to pay hundreds of dollars for a shop to do it.

I used the high pressure lithium moly-graph grease. He approves that stuff lol

Upgraded yesterday from OME 881 to 882's. Also removed my swaybar, I like to live dangerously.

 

Welp, after months of starting my truck with a 3/16” screw driver I can finally go back to using my normal key.
