Dude I need to learn to tune this AEM FIC6. I'm not trying to pay $500 again. And I want to change out my wg spring to a 12psi.

Can anybody help me tune a FIC6 or give me some pointers?

Also has anyone fully built the 5vzfe and turbo boosted and what was the outcome if so? Otherwise I'll just do a LS swap if or when this thing goes since CX Racing makes a swap kit

Not too late to start learning. Laptop and USB cable and you are good to go.

Few guys are getting up to 400 hp on the stock block at the moment. They both on standalone ecu.

The record is like 1400 or something in a MR2. Where is any middle ground here?

True, but that haltech has full control over fuel and spark. Easier to still have the factory ecu power everything. Plus I think he is auto. Don’t need to figure out shifting.

My logging is sooo slow. Feels like I’m tuning a dinosaur. I’m switching one day. Piggyback helped me get boosted and learn my truck, now I want more.

    Hey everyone...

Been considering my boost options here lately. Was gonna make a new thread but since this is a BS thread and I'd be looking for yall to be the ones to chime in since you have all the turbo experience...this just makes more sense.

Quick background: my truck is a '15 4.0 and is soon to be my only vehicle. So I need something reliable that I don't always have to fiddle with....doesn't have to be purely 'set and forget' installation but I'd like to not have to pull apart my daily driver every other weekend to chase problems around.

I was liking the idea of a Magnuson/UCONN setup from URD, then they started making the whipple for 4Rs so I thought I'd wait for that. Just recently watched a bunch of TRD S/C trucks and honestly...I think the whine is going to get on my nerves. I thought I'd like it but, maybe it's because there's not a big V8 behind it, I dunno. These v6's really don't sound very good either.

So then I was back to considering the URD rotrex setups. But I wanted to check in here with what the latest tech was for turbo setups as well. I'd likely spring for the Stage 3 URD setup and it looks like it's out of stock for who knows how long anyway, and I'd probably be 8-10K in the hole.

I think I could turbo for that amount of money. Question is, is there a reliable tuning setup? I breezed through a few pages and have occasionally dipped in here. Seems like tuning and turbo kit options are still rather custom and tuning is sorta seat-of-the-pants. I don't mind piecing a turbo/intercooler/manifold setup together but I don't want to be dicking around with tuning all the time.

Am I wrong? Should I just wait/settle with the URD rotrex stage 3 since the UCONN is plug/play?

personal experience if you want something more set and forget magnuson/rotrex. :crapstorm:

i was always fighting stuff on my previous car. boost leaks, turbo gaskets blowing out, turbo/mani hardware backing out

A lot of truth in this statement.

@bendilzerian , your "simplest" tuning option will be the self tuning setup from @OVTune. Which tunes the factory ECU.

Especially considering that you have the Secondary Air Injection System. Which would likely need to be removed. I also hear that OVTune has on the back burner, thoughts of implementing a turbo kit for the 2nd Gen.

For 8 grand you could probably build a small turbo setup ~8-10psi and pay for a dyno tune that in theory should last until ypu change components. Don’t fool yourself into thinking its a quick install. Admittedly I bit off way more than I could chew initially with my “big aspirations” during parts aquisition and it made me do a lot of extra custom stuff opposed to just the basics. I expected maybe a month install but then life intervened I got busy and 5 months later I’m finally getting ready to turn her over. I’m still stoked with my decision I just wish I was more honest with myself on the time commitment initially

Any more info on this? OBD compliant?

The FIC6 is doing an OK job now since I got the Trims kinda better than before.

Can someone explain to me exactly how to route the manual boost control with the waste gate? I nist teed it between the compressor housing and the wastegate but then what do you do leave a small spring on wg? How do they coexist

I believe a bleed valve like that leaks boost before it hits the wastegate. So while the spring may be set to open at 6 psi of boost, it wont see 6 psi of pressure until your engine hits 10 psi (random number) because some air (pressure) is leaking through the bleed valve on the way to tge wastegate.
