Front diff mount replacement bushings. Another plastics guy first.

Hello again, Your local lot lizard roaming the forums with another product that I made because I wasn't happy with the fact that Toyota doesn't offer a replacement bushing for the front diff mount brackets. you have to buy the entire bracket at over $100 each x 2.

So I made these replaceable bushings that have a cast in place metal bushing surrounded by a firm urethane rubber. After removing your original bushing with a little heat my bushing simply presses in.

My bushing is solid rubber around the metal inner bushing, unlike the factory OEM bushing that has two large voids (this is where they fail). My design offers more support around the metal bushing.

This is just a prototype in the photo but I'm very close to finishing this up. What do you guys think?

When will you make lower control arm bushings??

 

Lol!!! Its hard to compete with the whiteline bushings. I'm not much of a competitive guy, I like to be the only one on the block making what I make. its easier to claim your the best... But in all honesty those big companies that bang out thousands of parts a year are really good at what they do. If they made the various bushings and bump stops that I'm making I wouldn't have even bothered with all the R&D, Molds, and countless hours of spinning my wheels.

But if you have any ideas shoot me a pm. I'm always looking to fill the voids in the market

I’m doing a regear at some point. This is something I would be interested in doing at the same time.

Yes, Two of these guys. Front support upper insulators. they are the only part of the bracket that Toyota actually offers as a replaceable part. Currently $16.10 each from Camelback.
My kits will be coming with 2 of these included. Im just waiting on materials to arrive to finish them up.

The front diff mount brackets can be removed easily without needing to pull the diff out. Just remove your skid plate, and unbolt the 3 bolts that hold each bracket on. the diff will stay put. easy peazy. The complete job can be done in an hour, with beers.

I also make:
-Front and rear bump stops for 3rd gen 4runners
-front bump stops for 4th and 5th gen 4 runners. plans on rear bumps in future. -Front bump stops for 1st, 2nd, 3rd gen Taco's. Currently prototyping rear bump stops for all Taco's.

-a stupid little transfer case damper "saver" Its a silicone insert that fits between the counter balance hanging from the transfer case to keep it from clanking and making noise on rough roads

Let your friend know... Hell yeah!!! our trucks are over 16 years old. the rubber breaks down after all that time and then we go beat them up even more on the trail. They don't completely fail or fall out of the truck or anything, they just get sloppy and loose... who likes that?

Read Squeaky Penguin post above. this is very common.

the front bushings have a fair amount of flex and as they wear out it is allowing for the front diff to clock further than intended and makes for a sloppy feel as well as moving the CV angle around in the process. it can also make a clunking sound depending on how worn your OEM bushings are.

 

I wonder if these bushings fail more often in trucks with ADD hubs? I .. uhh my friends truck... Has manual hubs and they still seem tight?

 

Sounds like your friend is good! I don't believe it has anything to do with ADD. if your in 4 wheel drive, your in 4 wheel drive and the same torque is being applied to these front bushings.

My bushing look like this, so its obviously not holding up well...

 

I want a set. Mine is cracked on driver side due to oil contamination, at least the top cushion is.

Now! I just finished cleaning up my prototype to get it ready for the production molds. I will be making a rolling list of everyone that wants a set later this evening. I order enough material to make 50 sets and have a little over 30 sets spoken for already. These will be shipping out the 3rd week of July.
