    Question on this... when I had the rear driveshaft noticed the yoke was bone dry inside. Been pumping grease in there. Found the zerk on the front driveshaft today - started pumping grease in there and was watching it push the driveshaft back.

    Should I pump grease into both until it starts coming out the splines?

    She got her annual wash/wax/detail today including refurbing the fender flares using a magic eraser and trinova UV protectant (best shit ever!!!!) :) I'm shocked at how good it still looks after 15 years of regular use and being parked outside. Roof might need some paint soon though...

    I admire the fact that you are doing your own maintenance work. Kind of a shame though that you allowed price point to sway your judgement on OEM vs. aftermarket parts. In particular, the lower ball joints. I sure hope it doesn't come back to haunt you down the road.

    I pump grease into mine until I just start to see it slide apart, maybe a pump more. The first couple of times I pumped until I saw grease coming out the splines but what happens is even more grease will get pushed out when the suspension cycles which will make a big mess on the underside of the bed & frame. I find it unnecessary to grease until it comes out the splines.

    I would add to what Will said in that it is possible to put to much grease in the slip joint. There is an inner seal that can get pushed open allowing grease into the inner tube if the grease under pressure and can't escape past the splines. I think I read that the correct amount to add is to stop adding when the pumping action starts to push/move the slip joint.

    look in the end of it. Is the piston pushed back in? Old transmission? Did you change model trans or same one? Is the release fork slid into collar and release bearing?

    I got a matching engine (5vzfe) and trans (r150f) out of a 99-00 that got into a collision. Truck was minty before the wreck - struck on the front passenger side and bent the frame where the coil bucket attaches.

    The piston from the slave cylinder may be frozen stuck before it would normally bottomed out, but I won't find out until the new one arrives tomorrow. As far as I can tell the fork is where it should be on the release / throw out bearing, but it's pretty hard to see in there even with a flashlight / phone. There's a chance I could have messed something up, but I'm not sure what - clutch and flywheel went on w/o a hitch. Clutch masters saw the video and didn't say the clutch fingers looked unusual in their position. The clutch fork sits in the middle of the opening like they said it should.

    If it is possible to mess up the clutch fork / throw out bearing connection, that seems like one possibility or if I received a throw out bearing that was too long. Clutch Masters said that the bearing can only go on the fork one way. I'm really not looking forward to having to remove the trans and putting it back on if that's the case after getting the new slave tomorrow. On the bright side, practice makes perfect right? :angrygirl:

    I believe @borg1736 is in a simliar position as I - no idea/experience with the LBJ debate here. I’m just happy to have found out about the LBJ recall and hoping it hasn’t expired or was already done on my ‘03 as redoing the front end is a bit daunting although I can see/know all my bushings are shot. I paid more for repairs at a shop for (I believe) a power steering bushing replacement when they told me it would not pass NYS inspection 2 years ago and I just needed to get it registered than for the entire Energy Suspension bushing kit I just bought.

    Anywho... thanks @Digiratus & @zero4 on the input on yoke greasing - I have a bit more to install in the ass end, hopefully not too much of a mess comes up front.

    Regarding greasing the slip joint - mine was extended quite a bit further than stock due to the lift. When I took my driveshaft off to get rebuilt this year, all the grease I had put into that zerk was just sitting there in the bottom and never actually made it to the splines. So IMO, it's essentially useless for my application. I'll be unbolting the driveshaft from the diff from time to time and pull it apart in order to grease the slip joint.
