    Hi Guys,

I bought my 97 Tacoma with a lift kit on it. One of the shocks is blown and nobody seems to know what kind of a lift kit this is. I am looking for some help to figure out what this is so I can hopefully get some new shocks for it. Any help would be appreciated.

While I could hazard a guess, there are many that are much more seasoned at these things. They'll be along soon.

What I can say is that I'd be looking into the possibility of replacing the whole lift, not just a single shock. That big 'ole spacer on top of the coilover assembly isn't my cup 'o tea.

I imagine replacing the whole kit would be pricey.... If anyone can give me the name of this kit it would be awesome. Have looked all over for some kind of a part number or identification but no luck. Someone must have seen one of these before

That kit is probably something like the old trail master kit. It’s pretty bad. You have 2 options. 1 revert back to stock or 2. Buy a different DB kit and swap that in

Did you mean to type "Get a different DB kit and swap that in"?

I already fix it to “buy“ lol

I mean though if op really wants he can just buy some 4600 with stock coils and it will fit too, that kit only gets it lift from that giant spacer. the strut is stock

That kit has been discontinued for awhile now if that tells you anything

If I was OP, I would just get an assembled strut and replace it. Not worth messing with that lift setup IMO. Alignment shop may have some trouble but thats there problem.

    Yeah.
Since it is just a spacer lift and you don't want the expense of swapping to something more functional, maybe a stock replacement strut would work? You'd really have to get one off and get measurements and check specs.

'Steaming pile' is another possible description.

Every now and then a thread pops up with someone that just bought a tacoma and asking about this kit, thats on it and they either A: replace the funky ass strut with vw struts because thats the only option for those now or B: get a upper control arm and bigger spindles or C: they sell the truck.

As far as the actual shock goes its stock so you can replace that no problem, but beware those struts on the spindle will give you issues in the future.

Do your research in the first gen section of the forum and do it right. Bring it back to stock for now and save your pennies for a legit lift in the future.

I give it a 9/10 chance that whoever sold this to OP was either wearing a safety orange or safety green shirt, white framed sunglasses, or had a mullet.

Uh oh not another Trail Master lift...we see a few of these every so often on here and they are never pretty, unfortunately (or fortunately...) these lifts are no longer made so you won't find parts for it, not that you'd really want to anyway. It's a crap lift. Best bet would be to remove it and replace the necessary stock parts that were removed/modified by this lift kit, then put on a reputable coilover lift.
