I've looked all over the bloody internet and can't find the exact info on this.
Got my truck all set in the garage for a 100k MANUAL transmission fluid change but I want to be sure of the location of the drain and fill plug. There are four 24mm bolts under there and I don't want to undo the wrong ones.

I see one on the lower part of the transmission on the PASSENGER side (drain?) and another one a little higher and closer to the front of the truck on the DRIVER side (fill?). Then there are 2 way up high that are exactly opposite from each other (maybe holding the tranny on to the frame?).

I assume the first two I mentioned above are what I'm looking for, right?

Yes, and yes. You are correct for both the drain and the fill plug locations. General wisdom says to loosen the fill plug first, then remov the drain plug.
It is not necessary to replace the copper washers, just be sure you clean off all surfaces and apply the correct torque when reinstalling the plugs.
Enjoy driving with fresh lube on your stick.

Heh, I see what you did there.

Thanks, DGXR. The fill plug was frozen and I started rounding the bolt. After about 2 hours of working on it I finally sprayed it with something to loosen it. Popped off after. Drain/Fill only took about 20 minutes.

Any idea if I can replace the fill plug with an oil plug? I found one at the store with the same thread pitch and thread length. Only difference is that the bolt head is about 3/8" tall as opposed to the low-profile stock one.

Too bad it's mangled... 6-point sockets are the best.
If the oil plug threads match, you will probably be OK. But if the plug head is not the same then it might leak. Honestly you should replace it with an OEM part, they are cheap. I did a quick search for "toyota tacoma manual transmission fill plug" and found a bunch of stuff, including this:

This might be a dumb question cause the same gen, but would this be the same on a 2012?

Do some searching for part numbers between the two model years and you will find the answer. The truth is out there.

Both fill & drain plugs are in the same locations on my 2015 with 4x4 - even though the images above show a truck with 2wd.

I recommend using a 1/2 inch drive, six point, 24mm socket and torque both plugs to 27 ft/lbs when finished.

Anybody know the part numbers for the drain/fill gaskets? Best my google-fu has come up with is 35178-30010 for the drain can't seem to find anything for the fill.

I like your use of the term google-fu, and if @OldandSlow didn’t already get you what you’re looking for I recommend a phone call to https://parts.olathetoyota.com/, they were helpful to me finding OEM parts and part #s whether or not I was buying or “just shopping around,” and their prices beat my local dealer.

And plugging your part number into a search yielded this result

    Says it fits your year/model/trim

RTFM and you'll have your answer. I buy 3 qt when I do my prerunner, and there's not enough left in the last qt to bother saving.

My 2nd Gen 2012 Tacoma 4WD 2.7L engine 5-speed manual transmission is torqued to 27ft lbs for the transmission drain/fill plug as is the transfer case drain/fill. All 4 holes I just mentioned use the same crush washer also.

Bringing up an old thread instead of creating a new one.

On the 2.7 trans, I essentially fill until the fluid starts coming out of the fill hole? Same goes for the diffs and t case? Dealer was asking $800 for all these fluids changed lol

Yup. Just fill until it overflows the fill port.

Great. I just ordered 4 quarts of Redline for the trans and t case and another 5 quarts of Valvoline for the front/rear diff. One of the better investments I can make on the truck at 73k miles I’m sure.
