I am thinking of doing about a week or so of visiting Colorado in July with the GF. I really like the Durango, Silverton, Ouray area.

Anyone familiar with these areas and have some ideas on some good things to do, places to visit, trails that are prerunner friendly and things of that nature?

I want to take her on the train ride between Durango and Silverton and take her to Ouray for a visit and maybe a hike because that area there is just beautiful. Other than those few things I am not really aware of other things to do so if you have any suggestions or anything let me know!

Id like to spend maybe a day driving up there from Phoenix and staying maybe 2 days in Silverton, another 2 days each at maybe 2 more cities but nothing too far north.

    Thanks!

I don't really know what else there is to there but wheel! A few trails I am sure you can do is Ophir, Cinnamon, Clear lake, Maggie gulch and maybe Engineer. I think not having low range is more of a hinderance than not being having 4 wheel drive. You can rent a Jeep there.
Here is a link to a thread i started, it has a few pics and a few links to some sites.

We did the Durango Silverton train ride and it was great.
The next day we drove to Silverton and Ouray on the Million dollar Hiway.
Great drive, we continued on to Teluride for the night and back to Phx after a day there.

Well worth the trip, we had a street car so I can't help with any off road trips but it is beautiful country for sure.

No pre-runners allowed in Colorado sorry.. jk. I'd wait for Hoyal to post on here, he was just down in Tarryall which I think is down near Ouray.
