i know there are multiple threads on the release of the ECU update- my point in making this thread is for those who don’t think they have an issue or those that don’t have the “stumble” i didn’t either. What i did have was a quirky shifting transmission as i believe all of these Tacoma’s have.

The recent ECU update helps this truck come to life all around. Even if you feel you don’t have a stumble, you should request the update based solely on that fact that it’s a way better tune than what has come with the truck from the factory. The truck felt like it was still “learning” my driving but instantly after the tune it didn’t feel like it was learning anything anymore and felt very smooth all the way through the RPMs and held the gear a lot longer on throttle.

If you’re not tuned- get the update- you will be very glad you did.

To the uninformed, is this a factory Toyota upgrade or something aftermarket to pay for? And if it is factory and I just purchased a new '18 TRD, would it already have the upgrade?

It’s factory from your dealer, complain of a stumble at high altitude, costs nothing

Ok, thanks. I'm a flatlander here in Western Washington but we're taking a family road trip to the Canadian Rockies this week; if that reveals anything I'll know what it is. Thanks!

It’s an emissions related warranty claim so i believe your warranty on it is 70k - just complain about a stumble and bring them the numbers of the TSB youd like installed, they will know what it is

? for you . The learning the ECU does takes 100's if not 1000's of miles . Both previous reflashes Toyota did felt better at first but seemed to regress via learning if D was used . Not to bust your bubble because I am sure it drives great ,but can you explain how right after having this new flash done you can feel it is no longer learning ?

Because it’s no longer showing the characteristics of a transmission that’s “learning”, it’s just smooth all around- my truck only has 800 miles now and it’s a much different experience for me. I was going to OVTune the truck, but I’m not even thinking about that anymore.

It’s for people who don’t feel as if they have an issue- Im just trying to share my experience. People who feel they don’t have an issue won’t click on a “stumble” ECU update thread.

Let us know if it comes back after driving for a while. I read some people saying the update only worked for a little while then went back into it.

I will, but like i said it actually reversed what felt like it was learning my driving into just a really smooth experience. Makes sense since they obviously know of people complaining that they would look to modify the stock tune. I can’t see it reverting to a worse experience, but who knows... i loved my truck- it wasn’t a huge issue for me the way it operated from factory but I’ll take any update to help my truck run it’s best and that’s what this update does

I’m definitely going to get the update. I bought mine with 16,800 miles and I’m at 21000 now and I hate driving on the highway with this. It just hunts for gears and if I’m in ect it just downshifts way too hard at any little touch of the gas. I’ll be incredibly happy if the update makes me love driving this again.

I'll be taking my 2018 in for its 5000 mile service in a couple of weeks. How long does it take for a tech to do the ECU update? My truck has a very recent build date. Might it already have been done at the factory and how I can I tell?

An hour: hour and a half at a good dealer- it was released a week and a half ago... no trucks on the lot have it yet. Complain of a stumble at high elevationand just give them the TSB number that you want and you should be out of there with a nicer riding truck

    The TSB is 0062-18

On my recently manufactured 2018 Sport, will TSB 0062-18 correct all of the erratic behavior of this transmission? 1) Constant searching for the correct gear, especially in traffic. 2) Erratic shifting in moderate hill country. 3) Unwanted rapid acceleration above 3,000 r.p.m.'s in first gear. (It's a real "dog" at take-off unless I push down on the accelerator and then it "kicks in" too much.)

Does this TSB have any effect on cruise control. I find cruise control to be unusable in hilly country. It works best on level ground with a tail wind.

I had the scary experience of the stumble at wide open throttle and the altitude of my area is only about 1200 feet. Almost got t-boned.

I've been purchasing new vehicles for almost sixty years...both with manual and automatic transmissions. My wife's last two V-6 Tacomas (2011 and 2015) have been V-6 automatics. Never in all of my driving career have I had a vehicle with such a "sh--ty" transmission. Yes, I did extensive test drives (almost 200 miles) before I purchased my 2018 Sport and have been following this forum ever since the Gen 3's came out. Guess I am a slow learner and hoped for the best.

Either way, if you’re experiencing all that- this tune won’t be worse.... get it updated and see for yourself
