Painting My Rims

Can you tell me everything i have to have to do this and the steps of doing it? and if i screw up is there a way i can get rid of it?

 

Get rid of it: Have it media blasted.

From what I've read (here): (i) Clean/sand your wheels; (ii) 2-3 coats of self-etching primer; (iii) 2-3 coats of color; (iv) 2-3 coats of clear.

What kind of sand paper should i use? And it seams like the paint will chip off easily will it?

 

This, minus the clear if you plan on scratching them up eventually. That way you can touch them up easily.

 

so clean the rims spray 3 coats of black primer let it dry then spray 2 coats of black paint then let it dry??? what kinda of paint should i use???? I NEED HELP BAD!! haha

 

oh yeah how do i no if i had sanded them too much or too little and what kind of sand paper should i use?

 

Hey Steve o 77, on your second picture what did you do to get your rims to look like that...i want mine exactly like that except i want the middle black too can you please help me thanks

 

I just painted my wheels last week... I used sand paper and steel wool to scratch up the clear coat on the rims. After, I washed the rims, let them dry, and then wiped them with Acetone to get rid of any existing grease or dirt. I had to paint my wheels with the tires still on the rim, so I taped off my tires to make sure I did not get any over spray on the tires. After taping them off, I sprayed the rims with 2 coats of Rustoleum Performance Wheel Paint. Picked it up from Autozone for ~$8

 

I did this. Only I used krylon gloss black paint and rustoleum self etching primer from autozone. I also removed the wheels from the truck so I could lay them down for painting.
