Nobody has said they did the mod yet (besides me). Interested how it went...

[Edit, ahhhhhh 2nd gen, not 3rd gen... guess I was just non-observant today. Just excited that somebody had done the mod except me...]

Do you happen to know the part number for the front housing and/or how expensive it is?

Have 5k on my 17 OR Manual. Tank average is always at 22mpg. 2/3 highway driving and 1/3 city driving.

I wasn't suggesting a software update for the tranny but more for the engine. While not anywhere near the problems the autos are/were having, I have experienced hesitation of power and would appreciate any improvements. Don't get me wrong, I love my truck and feel that I would change very little. There is a OV Tune for 6MT you know...

Agreed on the reverse gear. The only time I ever abuse the clutch is in reverse going up a hill with a load. If there was one thing I could change. That would be it. I would make it lower than 1st.

A much as it drives me nuts as well, the hanging revs aren't ever going away. It's for emissions reasons because a throttle dump is a 100% raw hydrocarbon dump.

The only stumble I have is when I'm idling, clutch full out, and around 2-3mph in first like when I'm slow rolling in traffic. If I get on it very lightly the throttle dips down and the engine chugs a little or if I get on it hard I can feel a stumble. Otherwise it's been pretty solid. The torque curve on this truck is just a function of the engine design and I doubt you'll get anything from Toyota. These trucks just love their revs.

All true. That is just my wish list.

We'll see what the new TSB does for us.

I dont notice any of the surge issues they speak of on 3rd gens. Only the rev hanging between shifts, but doesnt bother me. Chirpy chirp only thing that i have issue with now. Slave spring swap in the fall, see if that fixes it. Wanted to try hydro one day, but that has gone MIA for awhile now.

Yeah, thanks. Quite familiar. I ask the OP about porting that to the 3rd Gens. It's a no go due to the 4wd 'puter changes.

In reality, @BigWhiteTRD 's mod is significantly less expensive than the box. The manual hubs are quite a bit more, but there are other advantages with those. I will probably do both in time.

Check the pedal free play first. If you're getting a noise, it may not be set properly?

Yup. 10min sounds right. The 3rd Gen 2Lo mod wouldn't have worked for you anyway.

The hard working @Up2NoGood (of the 2nd gen mod) found the 40 pin connectors to make a 3rd gen plug-and-play 2wheel-lo. Just need to find the Male and female 10 pin connectors at reasonable cost, and we can make 2wheel-low mod plug and play for 3rd gen too, (and probably rear diff lock anytime plug and play too in the same box, but much more complicated).

It will never be his impressive automated solution, but it should work...

I just will not pay for Toyota preterminated pins for a project like this, just too expensive for this cheap bastard...

You can find many of them in the Sumitomo or Yazaki catalogs, which are the Japanese OEMs for Toyota. Some Delphi may be used on the Tacoma, but I always buy the Sumitomo or Yazaki.

They are *usually* in the 2.3II (TS090II), 1.0III (HX040III) or 0.64III series. Sometimes, but certainly not always, the connectors (the plastic body) themselves are unique to Toyota but the terminals (the part that crimps to the wire) is not. I haven't bought one of the Toyota repair pigtails in a long time, just keep the bulk terminals around.

These two places have a decent selection of the parts:

Well I'll be a test subject because I'm trading my 2017 TRD OR Auto for a 2018 TRD Pro MT. We'll see. I do realize that there are potential intervening variables, but at least it will be the same driver. I pick up the Pro on the 17th, and I'll get back to you over time.

My 2013 was a manual and did get about 1 mpg less than the 17 TRD OR, but I can't be sure since I didn't record it.

The 10 pin are 2.3II I believe. Thanks for the suggestions, but haven't been able to match it all up yet...Maybe just incompetent today.
