What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I used to. Not anymore.

 

Thank you bro!.. I upgraded the mirror and bought the color match aerosol spray cans. My truck is a 96 so I had the small mirrors.

 

I think the 4Runner I got some power and heated mirrors from has the same white paint code. I’m wiring it up to a JDM power folding mirror switch that I’ll use to activate a timer for the heating elements. My mirrors fog up all the time, and I wanted to have independent control over it instead of just activating with the defroster.

Noticed my speedometer cable leading into my transfer case is leaking a bit. Whats the fix for that? Simple as an O-Ring in there?

 

Yup. 1996-2000ish 4Runners. Pull the door panel off and if the mirror is pinned for more than two wires it’s heated.

Jesus. I see several 4Runners at my local yards every time I’m there. One time there was a whole row of six or so 4Runner Limiteds, unfortunately someone looted the e-lockers.

I actually got my front differential in 4.30 from a 4Runner since 4.30 is uncommon on 4x4 Tacomas.

I also see lots of Tacomas, but never a 4x4 Tacoma. Always a 5-Lug and the rare PreRunner.

 

Had to drill 8 half inch holes in my roof for my Smittybilt rack...not fun to do at all.

 

I installed my Scanguage 2 today on my '96 Taco, now I just have to fill the tank and calibrate the unit. (Yes, the odometer is correct in the background. ;-) )

Nice, looks good. I didn't want to cut a hole in the upper housing, they are expensive and are getting harder to find.

 

I find them all the time at the junk yard lol. I have a spare for if I choose to ditch the scangauge

 

I put mine here. The OBDII wire goes through a switch blank.

 

I was looking to put mine in that area too but it is too low for me to see it clearly.

 

It would be distracting for me if I would’ve placed it in the vicinity of the instrument cluster. It mainly has information that I would occasionally want to know, so I don’t mind it being there.

 

To each their own, for me a quick glance is all I need. I tested mine in the lower dashboard area and it wasn't good for me.

 

What gauges do you have displayed? I programmed transmission temperature, but it told me it was currently “-39.9 F” so I believe pre-2001 trucks do not report it.

 

The ol' SPC failure pics convinced another person to gusset them eh? Looks awesome!

 

I've got mine down there too but I have a UG. Mounted at an angle so it's easier to view. I don't like that even the radio location is a bit low but I have an old school tilting face head unit which makes it perfect for me.
