Honestly I wish Toyota would release a TSB for manual trucks. The stumble, surging and general throttle delay/weirdness have been present from new (my truck was built 09/15).

There are a total of 4 known OEM calibrations, 04B10 (gah!), 04B11, 04B12 and whatever the '18s run. Did Toyota make improvements since the first version? Well I'll never know because there are no M/T TSBs that involve a flash reprogram of the ECM.

This is the main reason I run OVtune.

UPDATE: There are updates for M/T trucks now. See the M/T update thread.

My wife has a ‘16 4Runner Trail in white. If I didn’t want a bed I’d buy one to match hers. She’d love that. I drove some 2015’s but she (& I) would rather buy new.

    Wether I go Tacoma (2015 or 2018) or a 4Runner i want them to be 4x4.

Problem is I already test drove an ‘18 Tacoma SR5 and a 2015 SR5 on the same day last week. The 2015 drives more to my liking. Even ny wife who rode next to me on the test drive noticed the gear hunting just going up a highway overpass. The ‘15 didnt do that. I didn’t buy the ‘15 because it was from Ohio and it already showed some rust in the frame. If not I’d have that ‘15 right now.

My ‘08 4.0 Prerunner goes up that same overpass without the gear hunting and I’m running 285/70r17’s on it.

Just had my 30K maintenance. When I dropped off the truck (2016 TRD), I complained again about the poor shifting and the like. Even though I had the truck flashed I’m April. The dealer took care of it with a newer version. Man, the difference. Driving it is like being new. Holds the lower gears on climbs- like it should. Acceleration is like it should have been. And not talking about flooring it. Just behaves 100% better.

"limited to occurence" so they may not do it the same day I buy the truck if that is what i ask them to do,

Good to know! Happy for you.

Same thing happened to me on a busy freeway. As is, I don't trust the truck to go when I need it to, so I already made an appt to get the update done. It is covered up to 80k miles, I think. If the update doesn't fix the problem or it doesn't last, I might be headed toward trading it in for a 2015.

Ok i am interested in this but will they deny it if I've had a lift? Or if I don't live at high elevation? If they ask me to give more detail, I have nothing to say. How do I push this across the finish line?

Just had the TSB done today (0062-18). Drives sooooooo much better. When I turn up my street, it has always surged....not today! Feels like a "normal" AT.

read through the big thread for the symptoms, ie, drag between gear shifts followed by shift surges. I tried to change lanes the other day. Put my foot on the gas, and it dragged almost like it slipped out of gear, then kicked in, and this was in ECU mode.

Ask for 0058-18. It’s the same thing except the keywords you use is that you get a surging between 40-50 with converter locked in 4th and 5th gear. If that doesn’t work with the dealer then flash it yourself. That applies to everyone. They can’t deny you because of a lift or that your warranty is expired but if they decide to play games and say they can’t recreate the issue as many dealerships like to do then flash it yourself.

Ok I'm flexing some ignorance here, but I'm not tracking with "flash it yourself" -- Can you elaborate on what you mean here?

It's all good man, it's all been outlined in a couple other threads but the basics that you need are
Tactrix cable, most people have this cable for installing the OVtune
a copy of Techstream (there are numerous versions out that can be downloaded for free)
    CUW file
it's easy to do and safe. If you want to read more in depth then rrefer to Speedtre post #21876 on this thread https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...-alpha-release.495735/page-1094#post-18467299

I had this performed about two months ago. It improved slightly. I had 62-18 installed last week. It solved everything. It's also my limited understanding that 62-18 incorporates this update as well as 58-18. My unsolicited advice: don't waste your time on anything other than 62-18.

Doesn’t make a huge difference anyways. The update only helps a little.
