It was the difference between keeping my '17 and trading it in for a second gen.

It makes a big difference to M/T owners.

Before anyone jumps on my neck with "this TSB is for auto trucks", well you need to read the M/T update thread:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/software-update-for-the-manual.562550/

TSB 0058-18 makes reference to M/T calibration IDs and the CUW files contain the new versions (04B13 and 04A71).

    I'm running 04B13 right now.

Any idea of the production date for new Tacos that incorporate the new software?

Has anyone with a SSP installed gone to the dealer to get this TSB? Did you get any flack? Should I remove it before going?

I have a 2016 and have had every update available as I complained to the dealer every single time the truck was in the shop for each included Toyota Care service.

Each re-flash made a difference for sure but some were only to address significant disappointments like it taking 10-15 seconds to shift from R to D with a big "thud". The "Rev 1" flash was almost tolerable but sometimes it would seem to act up and become annoying again.

This latest flash is for sure, pretty damn good. It does seem to "get up and go" better as people have said. It seems the torque converter allows the engine to rev a 500 or so rpm higher as it gets going. The biggest difference is the fact that the truck is no longer constantly "testing" for 6th gear. It actually will get into the appropriate gear and stay there. Before, it would get into the appropriate gear, try 6th, then shift back to the appropriate gear. It also now seems to preemptively select the correct gear when you start going up a hill. Before I would either slow down a bunch or have to give the truck more throttle to maintain speed (at which point it would usually shift to 6th, then downshift to 3rd and take off like I was trying to drive like an idiot). The truck has never been in 5th gear so much before this update - its about time because 6th is just too tall at 45mph with such little torque this truck has at 1000 rpm.

You can tell that Toyota was getting serious pressure to fix how this truck behaves. As much as the dealers like to play dumb, I think the complaints are heard. I will continue to get every update that is released but man, I would have been a lot less stressed/disappointed if I just waited 2 years and bought an '18...

Is this only for auto transmissions or does it apply to manual as well? Just purchased an ‘18 TRD OR last week.

At what point do TSB's actually make it into the factory pipeline? In other words, anything made in Texas or Baja with a build date of 8/2018 or later is gonna have all of the TSB's applied?

Have heard about the "stumble" issue in other threads.

    I live at ~6,000 feet, work at 7200' and frequent 4 - 9000'+ elevations.

Manual Trans. - I haven't experienced "stumble" at all. Is this an Auto Trans. issue?

I own a 16 OR and have never flashed it. Mainly because pretty much every single person who has kept up with the latest and greatest update always noted after a few thousand miles the old shift patterns returned. I see this one as no different.

many of the mt's have it, shows letting power out into 2nd gear usually, between 2k-3k rpm. it's not the only driveability issue tho. the update cleanly fixes all that. runs so much smoother now it's like a different motor. been rough for 34k miles until last Saturday.

It makes a big difference to AT trucks as well. I happen to prefer M/T because I like having more control over shifting, but I have physical limitations that forced me to go with AT. I tend to be hyper aware of what the transmission is doing, and my transmission prior to the update was crappy! After the update, it shifts normally. I still wish I could control when it shifts, but hopefully it will learn what I want it to do like my '09 did over time. Most of the people who get the update notice a big difference.

I hear you on this! I agree about the shift pattern staying the same through all the updates. The 0077 did fix my R to D delay, but shifting never seemed to improve or only improved slightly. After having done the 0062 update recently, the pleasure and feel of driving a smooth shifting truck with better throttle response, was well worth the hour wait to get it done. I have driven this truck across the country, had it since November 2015. I really like the truck and just got used to it’s bad shifting habits. After have the 0062 done we drove it up to big bear and out to Joshua Tree to see the meteor showers. It was so much fun to drive!!, completely different, smooth shifts, like some you almost couldn’t feel the shift. Before it felt like you had to really depress the throttle pedal to get the pig moving. Now it’s like a feather light touch and you are up to speed. I wanted to keep driving around.
Yes I am trying to get you to change your opinion because I think you will be much happier with your truck, and hell its free.
Only time will tell if it sticks, but just to feel how the truck should operate is worth it IMHO.

Just an opinion but a reasonable lift shouldn’t matter. I have a 2” OME lift and have done plenty of other modifications to my truck. My service advisor didn’t bat an eye about it, he got it in and got it done. Dealership are independently owned, some will do whatever you ask no problems. Others will try anyway they can to get out of something if they don’t make a profit. A call to ToyotaCare usually gets the ball rolling if someone denies your service.
If your running a 6” lift I am thinking you know that doing that significant of a modification your likely going to get some pushback about warranty work etc.

What does this update do to fuel economy? I have an untouched early 2016 and get 21-23 mpg. I don't want to lose that for a bit more oomph off the line.

Quick question, if I show the dealer the pdf are they supposed to update the TSB? I bought a 2018 TRD Sport 3 months ago. I called to make an appointment for this Saturday and talked to the service advisor, explaining how the truck is behaving with the shifting etc. He put me on hold, came back and quote that there is no recall for that. I told him that is not a recall but rather an emission service "warranty" bulletin regarding this issue. He scheduled me up for Saturday still but not sure if is better to show him the pdf or not. Any suggestions?
