Headlights

Just picked up my first Tacoma a few weeks ago. So far I love it and my biggest complaint is the fact that it still has drum brakes in the year 2010. Other than that I took it on it's first mini road trip as a few of us went to Deals gap with the bikes this past weekend. Looks like I will be bringing it in for the rear leaf spring TSB since the rear was squatting with just a 400cc Supermoto in the back.(Just think of a motocross bike with sport bike tires) Drove home in the dark and was very unimpressed with the high beams. Anyone else feel that the high beams are rather lackluster? My wife has a 2008 4 Runner and her high beams are great. I feel like I get better coverage of the road with the low beams. At first I thought maybe there were two bulbs in the housing, one for low beam and one for high and maybe the high beams were aimed wrong but not the case. Anyone have a solution other than going with a mesh grill with a set of Hellas behind it?

 

I couldn't be happier with my headlights. I think they're bright as shit. What bike do you have?

 

I went to Hella 500s, still wasn't happy and then on to projector headlights. Wish I had done the projectors first but hey now I have Hellas!

A lot of people have bad things to say about the ebay projectors, but mine are great. I have none of the common complaints seen here except that the halos aren't terribly bright in the model I have. Then again I like to tinker, so I'll fix it in due time.

 

I also think that the stock headlights are very bright and I am very happy with them. If you're unhappy with them, I would suggest making the foglight-on-anytime mod one of your first projects, as that will help keep some light on the road for you when you have the brights on (assuming you have fog lights).

I do feel you on the rear springs though, I haven't performed the rear TSB and I feel it when I haul my supermoto around (when it's in dirt form of course, '06 WR450).

I think ours are plenty bright. Try it again without the weight in the rear pointing your lights at the sky.

 

If you had your fog lights on, they go out when you put on the high beams. You lose a lot of the side of the road lighting. There is a write-up on here for a mod for fog lights on all the time. It should help you out.

If you have a load in your bed and is squatting down your low beams will be more effective due to the fact that your high beams shoot the light at a higher angle. And you can always get some HID'S
