What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I totally agree, my favorite set of pliers. My adjustable wrenches just collect dust now. Pretty much anything Knipex is great. I have a set of Cobra pliers also which I also love.

 

Isn’t the cab exterior mostly one piece? It has to be all spot welded in.

The 98-00 bumper has a lot less room behind it than the 01-04.

 

Just locate some leather seats from a 2 door car, almost all of them will flip forward.
Thats why I got some from an RSX (the leather is fairly poor though since they tend to rip after a while).

 

What rear bumps are those? I also need to add those pliers to my tool box.

 

Best thing to do is shot gun a beer before drilling it! Then of course funneling a beer out of the snorkel, good times

I made up for not shotgunning by having two cans o'courage and then going to work with this horror show.

 

Yeah it’s mostly one piece. I just know you can order skins through Toyota. Not sure if they section it differently though than what it was stock

 

Now that's scary. Are you cutting in reverse, so those teeth don't grab the metal?? Using something like a wood block behind the metal??

 

Yup I found it easier to go in reverse and get a nice groove in the metal then go forward and it made it a very painless process. I've now installed 4 snorkels in addition to mine with this method

 

That was a new, sharp, quality hole saw. I went forward and went relatively slow and it took about 1 minute to get through with no issues or binding. Didn't really push too much (just some light vertical rocking) and let the saw do its duty. Cleaned up the edges with a dremel and it was good to go. No wood block.

Yeah I noticed the lack of room behind the bumper. I tried squeezing it behind the AC line like you did, but couldn't get it to fit. How did you manage to fit it in there?
Also, how'd you mount the bottom side of the cooler?

 

Those are some beefy mounts! If only I had a plasma table... Actually those brackets probably wouldn't fit very well in the tiny space behind the bumper on my 2000.

 

Best steering rack bushings not sure if an OEM replacement rack comes with all new ones?

IMO Energy Suspension. Cheap & easy to install once you cut out or press out the stock ones. Made a big difference over my stock bushings that were only 40K mi old.

But I've had variances with mine. The first set I got one of the included bushing sleeves I had to drill out for the stock mounting bolt to fit. The set I just put on a month ago, the same bushing sleeve that was included, the hole was way oversized so I used the sleeve that I drilled out from the prev set.

 

Curious if it's even needed since it'll be a brand new rack? I suppose it wouldn't hurt to just get the better bushings in prior
