Ok, I’ve now got 526 miles on my new Pro. On fairly level freeway I noticed the transmission shifts all the time. I’m Accelerating...shift. Going up a Small incline....shift

    Is this normal?

With an AT you may have to spend a little to get the truck to run the way you want.

There’s a few hundred threads on here about the 3rd Gen auto trans, maybe the biggest complaint about it.

My TRD off road has 1,500 miles on it and the transmission is driving me mad. I had the latest update (18) and it’s only marginally better. I’m thinking I might go with the OVTune to improve the drivability. It’s either get it fixed or trade it in for a new F150. I’m glad they at least have a high resale value.

My F150 work vehicle also shifts incessantly. It’s got the 10 speed. I think that’s just the way vehicles are going to be now.

Sounds like you need a Nissan Sentra or something with a CVT. They never shift.

This is a common complaint, I knew about it before I purchased but never though it’d be an issue for me. On a trip to town in a mix of highway and city driving my Toyota Highlaned will shift about 50 times compared to 400 times for the Tacoma. Constant speed on the highway it hunts for gears constantly.

Actually the Highlander ( my wife has a new one) shifts much more than the Tacoma as it is eight speed auto. But, because gears are much closer together and the highlander is quiet, you don't even know it's shifting.

I don’t think that the shifting is the problem. I mean you expect a 10 speed to shift more than a 6. There are more gears. What annoys me is how just at cruising speed the thing needs to down shift and rev up a bit just to increase the speed a little when using cruise control. Also it’s pretty loud revving up and takes a second or two to start moving. So when I need to fly by someone they either think I’m racing them and I look like an asshole. Or some guy in minivan, civic, or something floors it so I’m like racing them. And usually they win :anonymous:

Makes me miss my old ecoboost

Our Highlander is new too. It stays in OD on the highway and never shifts unless your passing. It town the shifts are positive with no dead spots.

CVTs are awesome, no shift points. Toyota cars have them too.

Not even broken in and not even close to have learned your diving habits to start shifting smooth. IT WILL GET BETTER. I just did a 800 mile trip and shifts were butter smooth, uphill, down hill, passing, head wind, even towing my boat in town. My 64 mile commute in traffic, on the freeway and up and down a 12% grade. All smooth. No tsb and shift sense pro no ect, no s mode. Sure as hell wasn't when I first picked it up but it learns.
