Well, everything was going well today and the last thing I had to do was replace the ECGS bushing.

All was good until I dropped the smaller end of the removal tool into my front diff, yep not good.

I’ve tried the telescoping magnet but I think it’s too far down. I even drained the diff fluid and I can feel the piece through the drain hole.

Anybody have any ideas before I have to pull my front diff and open it up?

Update, this was a lot of work, but definitely worth it, my advice is watch the videos and have someone that’s done it before help you. It’ll be a lot easier.

Thanks for all the help when I ran into issues. TW really saved me

The problem with a magnet is everything is metal inside.

Take a break and go back into it with the patience of a Buddhist priest.

Yeah I’m trying. A magnet isn’t going to work everything is metal inside. The claw tool won’t work because of the angle. Really don’t want to pull my front diff, the truck only has 5200 miles.

Buddhist priest would say don’t drive.

You might wanna try a hose pick or coat hanger, just to give it a shot. Namaste.

Can you use a tool of some variety of tool to push it from the drain hole to a position you can grab it through the axle hole?

Try finding a magnet strong enough that it can attract it through the case. Then slide it up and out

The issue is everything is metal, even the telescoping magnet sticks to everything.

May just pull the diff in the next couple days.

This happened to @rollin904 and I think he got lucky and it came out of the drain plug.. Maybe try running the diff fluid back through it in hopes it flushes it out? Fill from where the CV inserts into the diff.

And of course hindsight 20/20, but for anyone else reading this, this is why you shove a plastic baggy into your diff before removal. It will prevent this.

    Good luck OP.

Your not putting the magnet it in. Your getting a big magnet and putting it on the outside, move it around to you feel it grab the small piece. Youll feel it. Home Depot might have some over by the hardware section at the end where they have misc nylon stuff and hangers.

I’m fairly certain it’s not coming through the drain plug, there’s not enough room.

My best bet is a stronger magnet to try and pull it out through the axle hole
