I bought the gear oil with the limited slip already in it. No difference in price, but huge on the piece of mind. Also, I upgraded to synthetic as well.

I put the Lucas Oil one for like $13.99 a quart... Kinda worried I shoulda put LSD additive now, but can't find an answer on that...

    Synthetics a waste in diffs.
I answered your question earlier. No, you don't need it. Go get some Lucas dino 85w-140 and fill it up. Done.

Why do you say that? I don’t know that’s why I’m asking.

That was a good read although they kept using the word “dyno” oil when I think they meant “dino” as in dinosaur oil.

Where can one get a thermometer for the diff? Or tranny for that matter? They mention a $50 diff thermometer in the article.

My service dude told me the same thing but only listed:
    75w90
    80w90
I know other are rocking 85w140 because of its viscosity but how long have they been running that for? To me it seems like a huge huge in oil thickness but I'm also no mechanic

I am thinking about doing this annually (along with the rear diff). It’s fun and not too expensive. Might even use the cheaper WalMart gear oil. I drive about 15k miles so my gears will always be in fresh oil.

I would question their logic. I use Amsoil and have for some time. I know Amsoil runs cooler in differentials, I've seen guy change quick change rear ends right off the track with bare hands. One thing to note is Amsoil is the only true synthetic. Most are either mineral oil or some combo of pertro. With this mind Amsoil is slicker....and doesn't breakdown like most oils. You can get Amsoil test results from their site.

Went to my local dealership last friday to get the necessary o rings for the frt & rear diff, as well as the o rings for the transfer case... The parts clerk stepped outside to have a look at my rear diff to see if it was limited slip... while kneeling down on the driver side, he pointed out that my diff was electronicaly activated ( there is a cylindrical motor) on the axle housing. Told him I planned on using royal purple with positive reviews from others on this site. He commented that no limited slip additive would be required.
    Just a fyi,

Amsoil is Group V along with Redline and Motul. But, even these will use Group 3/4 add packs.

    CHEVERLY my service dog! Lol
Just changed my Rear Diff today for the first time. I'm at 53k and missed the first change. Rear diff oil wasn't really bad; still kind of light brown-ish. Soaking the Front Diff and T-case bolts tonight and will hit them tomorrow. I used Mobile 1 75w-90w GL 5 with LS already in it. Took a test drive and noticed how much smoother it is. Looking forward to doing the other two.
