Front subframe is tearing itself apart. WTF!

Yeah, it makes me wonder how the other side is doing as well. It’s gonna get fixed right. How that happens and what I do after is to be seen.

 

One truck out of hundreds of thousands is not reason to panic. Let’s see if anyone else reports back with similar findings first.

 

Toyota avoided my warranty due to lift, steel bumper and off roading. I am at 27k on milage.
Edit... I also have no power steering from a blown rack and pinion

I know of a few. It's not the first. All use their trucks hard off road. I wouldn't worry about a little crack. That area really doesn't support much. The battery side carrys weight.

 

There’s always insurance. I’m gonna go the dealer route as I use to work at the dealer I take it to and I’ve got a pretty good relationship with the shop manager. We will see, but either way it needs to be fixed.

 

Not sure if people haven’t caught this but the spot welds are busted where the subframe and the inner fender support meet. That should be welded together.

 

Where I live... I am bound to be caught up in accident in the next 18 months, so my truck will get fixed then. Last week I was almost broadsided by a 3rd gen 4runner. They missed by inches, if I hadn't if swerved just a little my truck would probably be bent in half.

 

OP, your body mounts could be shot, too. Maybe metal on metal slowly tearing shit up. Here’s the write up to replace them by a member, same as 2nd Gen

I’ve been through that already. No issues there. This was causing the noise.

Was it welded to begin with and broke or was there no weld there to begin with??

 

I think early fj's had this problem too.

Ya that's shit.
Mine held up better through a front end crash.(but 2nd gen made in America) not mexico.
I cut out my inner fenders out that you call sub frame. There just Inner fenders. It's all body. Its supported by rubber mounts to the frame. It's not a sub frame. Glad you know friends a a dealer that will help. Its an easy fix with a welder. Having good Freinds at a dealer will go a long way.
But seriously passengers side supports nothing. I wouldn't worry. IF IT GETS WORSE.
Your radiator core support will be next to have problems.

One of the things that I read was that they even can't fit their 3.0l. Only 4cyl diesels and EBs fit due to the global design for all the other markets. Sounds crazy, but it is odd that they haven't dropped the bomb yet with a lot of people wanting it.

 

Everything short of an all out racer will. Everything is a compromise.

 

I know it’s not a “subframe”, but that gets the idea across of the area. I’m not the type of person that’s just gonna let this go. It’s getting fixed and then who knows. I need a camping rig, if the Tacoma can’t handle it then I might just have to get that wrangler pos.
