I’ll double check again on that trim packer. I contacted wheeler about it but I should of ask if the leaf are side specific as well. Thanks.

Edit: I did get the IFS skid plate on. It was the Trans skid plate that I haven’t install yet.

The skid plates hardware are questionable and I might change some of them out. The two back bolts that are suppose to mount the Trans skid to the transmission cross member are too short. They don’t even go all the way through the cross member.
I know that the bottom mounting bolts that goes under the Apex Bumper were the wrong thread size which TG did give me new ones when I visited them about fitment of my bumper.

@CalTacoma09 Hey man can I see where you mounted your Retrofit stuff. I got the headlights in, but the wiring and mounting stuff is throwing me for a loop.

Looks awesome, I wish my lens were clear.

Zip ties are your friend or at least mine.:D If you don’t have a plate to mount them on you can do what I did. It works, I have had these in place doing 60+ mph in the desert with no issues. Some day I will put plates in somewhere.

Thanks. I was thinking zip ties, but couldn't really find a good spot, and it doesn't help that I lost my instruction sheet, and that electricity is basically magic to me. Currently taking a break before I break something, I think I bit off more than I can chew with this one.

Ordered more parts for the dual battery set up today.
    :spending:

Got the relay for 29 bucks on a Warehouse deal. And the price on the negative terminal is for 2.

When I got the message, I had spent the last 3 hours building two of these (1 for dads jeep, 1 for my truck), and they used almost the same clips

Figure I'll ask here because I'm hoping this group will be doing many wheeling trips in the future and I'd like to only have to do coms once in my truck.

Should I install a dash mount CB and get a handheld HAM? Or, just install a dash mount HAM and skip the CB?

Both have benefit, but for this group HAM will probably be the preferred method
And onboard is usually easier to deal with imo than handheld

Thought about this as well. I would think CB is more basic for our needs and would be cheaper. Also doesn't HAM require a license by the FCC? But then again I don't know anything...

Ham requires at least a technician license to transmit. From what I understand Ham is kind of taking over as the preferred method of comms due to being able to patch into repeaters that can give you tons of range instead of just bouncing from transceiver to transceiver, although that works too. The downside being lots more regulation. The test is usually about $14 and is 35 questions from a published pool of 424 questions. Licenses last for 10 years before having to be renewed, you don't have to retest just a small fee to the FCC.

Cost for either set up is probably around the same, but ham can get silly expensive if you let it. I chose ham because it seems to be the preferred comms in lots of groups (OB, the sac guys I met, and the socal peeps John used to run with), and because I've always been super curious about it, and I totally need another expensive hobby lol, but CB is for sure the easiest option.

If you're interested in Ham check out hamstudy.org the website is free to use and a great study tool. I've been running through the questions whenever I have a little down time over the last month and think I'm just about ready to take my test. They also have a phone app but that costs a few $.

Handheld Ham transceivers can have issues inside a vehicle due to sitting inside a metal cage (shouldn't be too much of a problem if we're all close), but can generally be hooked up to an external antenna and mic. They are going to be limited in power though to 5w. Onboard or mobile transceivers are more like 50-200w.

Ham forsure. For future shtf purposes and for overall versatility.

License is good to have and you should get it... But for a while if youre only using it in the forest in simplex channels/frequencies (channels intended for short range radio to radio comms) you should be "ok".

Handhelds are cheap and effective, i have two 8w. I use them to help with setting up long range targets in the forest where line of sight can be tricky. Eventually will be wiring up a mobile unit in the truck
