Throttle position sensor 89452-35030

Has anyone been able to find a throttle position sensor for a 03 Taco? The dealer says they can not get the part #89452-35030 and I think it also fits 01 and 02 models. [6cyl]

 

I can't say I have purchased from here, but they claim to have it.

That is not the same part. This part number ends in 20, not 30. The bolt hole spacing is not the same and the wiring harness plug is three prong, not 4 prong like the PN ending in 30.

 

This throttle positioning sensor was just installed on my 2002. It is not OEM.



It is a "tps482", and I'm sure the mechanic got it at a local partsRus house...

89452-35020 for my 2002 back in May from Camelback Toyota. Price at the time was 52.33. It's still sitting in my parts box (lol) waiting to be installed. OP, I'd check-in with @gunny1005 and see what he recommends... might be able to track down what you need.

 

xxxxx-35020 is a three pin TPS & xxxxx-35030 is a four pin, p/n's aren't compatible between these two throttle bodies (non/ects-i=35020 & etcs-i=35030). A three pin can be bought relativity easy, the four pin; at my last checking involves replacing the complete throttle body because knowone supplies that individual part.

 

Nope been elusive part to find. I even tried to get Denso to make them available and Beck Arnley to make them. Tried buying overseas, all a dead end. 2003-2004 have the electronic throttle bodies and the TPS sensor 89452-35030 is not sold separately from the throttle body. A used one or new from Toyota. Toyota has come down in price a lot. They used to be over $1000 now they're around $600.

 

Dealer ran my vin through the system and says my truck has PNXXXXX-35020 sensor but it does not, it has xxxxx-35030. They called yoda distribution and were told that some 03 tacos had 35030 sensors but most had 35020. If you get the replacement throttle body it comes with 35030 sensor [if you order that verson] so that means Toyota has the part, they just will not sell it without the expensive throttle body [$800 my dealer said]

 

It's actually, in reality, the other way around. Very, very few 03's had the 35020. And very, very few 02's had the 35030.

Don't know if this is true, but it seems accurate because Toyota doesn't stock the 35030 TPS, because according to Toyota the 35030 TPS needs to be calibrated along with the APPS at the factory, on the throttle body.

Of course that doesn't justify the fact, that a new 35030 TPS can be installed on a existing TB and "clocked" to adjustment given the diagnosis listed in the FSM.

 

I have not heard that the 35030 sensor needs to be calibrated anywhere else. Do you have anything from Toyota that states this? If that is true then it seems that individuals who got their replacement part from a junk yard would have had issues. It would also seem odd that Toyota would make this one sensor model that needs calibration.

 

No. That's why I stated "not sure if true or not". But I've read it a few times throughout the years on multiple forums... I no longer have those sources conveniently available to quote, sorry.

Maybe it's all hearsay. But it makes sense if Toyota doesn't stock that part. Because it's obviously a completely separable part from the TB. Maybe it's to avoid liability. Toyota has a bad track record regarding their computer controlled throttle.

Since Toyota is known to repeatedly use a single part on a large variety of models & years. I'd be interesting to see what other drive-by-wire 4 pin TPS' that are out there and maybe they even have a different part number...

 

I have an 04. Mine started acting up. I ended up getting a used TB from the parts dismantler. No other options I could find. Dealer wanted $1000+. I even checked overseas with all of the China manufacturers whom said they had it but didn't. I got a 30 day warranty and it worked. Just my experience.

 

Darn I have one of these 4 wire TPS that appear to be unobtanium. I've had bad luck with these failing on me in the past.

There are other contemporary Toyota TPS that have 4 wires. The first I found is the 89452-30150 is 4 wire and looks like it could be a physical fit. The mounting holes are slots so it will need calibration most likely. I'll look into others.

Really it just needs to fit mechanically and be electrically equivalent. Time to break out the ohm meter...

It's a dual sensor due to the fly by wire throttle. I image it is a safety thing so the throttle servo does not end up applying too much throttle. Probably a good idea due to the Lexus runaway problems from the past. I'd guess you could take a regular three wire and just connect the two sensor wires together. Should that fail it might be a little exciting.

@mechanicjon is our 1st Gen 4 pin TPS sleuthing paragon.

 

I have and several other on other forums. The picture from the first page of that threas shows the inside face and the 30150 is not a match. However, another 4 pin TPS with number 89452-22080 appears to be the same mechanically. Is it an electrical match? I'm thinking not after looking at the wiring diagrams of vehicles that use it.

There are some others like from the Lexus 3.5L used in 04 and 05 that look to be electrically compatible, but the mechanical interface is different like the 30150.

 

Sorry, I'm not up do date on all the TPS differentials.
What do you mean by "mechanical interface"? I'm guessing that's a reference to how the mechanical part of the throttle body linkage intercepts/ engages the linkage/coupling in the TPS sensor?

Just curious. What basically is different between the two (ie the 35030 & 30150)?

 

Exactly, I'm not sure. The plastic pieces where the throttle body turns the sensor are different. Enough different that they probably will not work.

It's pretty important that this is right. Wrong could end up with uncommanded full throttle.
