Fuels guys have it rough. I'd never want to work with that much JP8 that often ever.

I was bulk fuel in the Marine Corps. Wasn’t a bad gig. Either played with jet fuel and diesel powered toys or got fapped out tdy to pull security with grunt units. Never had a hurricane but went through a typhoon in Okinawa.

I live a few miles from Charlotte. We have forecasted 75 mph winds and flooding. Just over 3 hours from the beach. Already gas lines and packed grocery stores.

We’ll see what happens as the forecast changes.

The next 24 to 36 hours should be crazy I'm betting. Still not sure why mid coastal sc jumped the gun....unless they know something we don't.

Unless that Bermuda Ridge pushes it and it turns directly into SC

My dad sat in traffic on 26 between Charleston and Columbia for over 14 hours in 99 for Floyd...the evac plans were supposed to be heavily revamped after that disaster

There’s a lot of reasons, but starting the mandatory evacuations early lowers the chances that the routes are parking lots up until the storm figures out where it’s going. You don’t want to wait until the last minute to evacuate areas as populated as the SC coast

And if you figure SC has around 200 miles of coastline, and the storm is 500 miles wide if you include the rain bands, and 250 miles wide without the bands....even if the eye hits Little River/Shallotte, Hilton Head can easily experience quite a bit of hurricane

They’ve closed everything from the coast up through the midlands...and buses from school districts all over the state are staging to assist in evacuations...and schools will be used as shelters

After experiencing several SC hurricanes, including Hugo...I don’t fuck with them...i live in Lexington and have a plan for 1 dog to go to my parents and I’ll be keeping the other here...there’s already a survival bag in my closet and aux batteries for cell phones are charged up...both vehicles were gassed up Sunday

    That seems a little excessive

They can in fact arrest you for failing to evacuate after mandatory orders

Will they? Depends on a lot of things and I'd imagine an arrest would only occur if emergency crews were forced to come rescue you after you refused to evacuate

Maybe, but I think Adam's point is more about self reliance and personal choices.

This. It allows for the potential of additional risk to property and life when first responders have to go out and save people that refuse to leave. Not saying you'll need saving, or that you'll put yourself in a situation that requires it, but other less able people who refuse inadvertently put other peoples lives at risk..

Like the Bozos that try to drive through 3 feet of water. You better believe they are getting some fines for their idiocy.

I am scheduled to be in the NC mountains for an advanced Scout leader training. Supposed to start up there at 7:30AM Friday morning- and stay in a tent...o_O

We'll see if they call it; email excerpt I posted yesterday was about this. Right now- more worried about home than mountains. Driving in early AM darkness as the storm is making landfall may suck too!
