TRD Exhaust, Mobtown bolt on sliders and aluminum tailgate reinforcement, Reverse lights changed to yellow turn signals, LED pods added for reverse, ADD W1 oil catch can, Total Chaos bed reinforcement, rear diff breather to taillight mod, 12" combo led bars behind lower grill wired to high beams, Toyota led bed light kit, 400 watt anytime mod, SSO slimeline front bumper.
I added factory bed lights and tired in my canopy light to them also. When you buy the kit it comes with directions that are easy to follow.

The factory kit (Amazon link) is easy to install, did mine in a few hours (but I was ainal about cable routing and length). Few people have made the mistake of not printing the PDF template at a scale of 1:1 and there for drilled the holes in the wrong place. The connectors supplied for tapping into the factory wiring are shit. But since you need to cut the wire down to size since you get about 6ft too much, just cut them off and use posi-tap's instead.

this would be sweet with an OE style switch that lets you toggle them to power on when doors are open or on all the time.

Follow the factory install, and that’s exactly what happens. They tap into that switch.

a truck that didn't come with factory bed lights didn't come with "that switch".
the picture shown is from caliraised site, an advertisement for the switch panel only.
the Toyota/Amazon kit suggested above doesn't come with any switch.

from a review on the amazon listing:
--"There is no physical switch. It is designed to hook into the dome light circuit and goes on and off with the functions that control the dome light - pressing the key fob or opening the door."

I thought you were talking about the factory bed light switchshown in the pic. The one that turns on the stock bed light that’s in the 3rd brake light.

Can we confirm that the kit does wire to the factory bed light switch? That would be the selling point for me...

    Thanks

Yes, we can confirm that it DOES wire into the factory bedlight switch. That’s how mine are wired, following the install instructions posted.

I was looking to add this to my taco. Based on my web searching,be aware that the kit offered by Southeast Toyota and the the kit offered by Toyota(now discontinued and replaced with?) differ in the wiring harness and installation directions. The bed lights themselves are the same from what I could tell.

So the kit on Amazon works off the factory bed light switch?

They wire into the dome light per factory instructions. You can instead wire them into the factory looking switch that people have shown on here from Caliraisedled. That is how I have mine setup.

As okichewy1 stated, both installation directions have you wire into the dome light circuit.

The Southeast instructions have you using a drill bit to drill holes in the bed. The Toyota instructions have you using a hole saw.
They have different wiring harnesses and similar but different harness routings on the official instructions. The lights themselves seem identical.

PT948-35160 was the official Toyota part number. It shows as no longer available on the official Toyota parts website.
00016-34089 is the official Southeast Toyota part number.

Anyone per chance know the new Toyota part number? It still shows as an optional accessory for 2019.

I installed the factory kit and it was easy. If you are technically savvy you’ll be fine. I followed the directions to tie into the cargo light. They operate with the key fob and the cargo light switch. Some pics of my install:
