What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I did this once when I had my bed basket, the fairing metal plate thing flew off in the cold because the loops that held it on were plastic and got too brittle in the cold. Didn't go back for it though, it was such a wind dam it flew off the side of the road and was never seen again. So no fairing until I rolled the truck haha...

Damn lol, yeah mine happened primarily because of the weak washer design but also because I was driving on the 395 through the Mojave desert and it was so goddamn windy I practically had the truck's wheel at a 30 degree position to keep it driving straight. Wind and mounted accessories don't mix

 

Just ordered a custom pop socket for my phone, think they will try to say the image is copyrighted? They said if it is my order will be canceled..

There are ones that say Tacoma as well btw..

 

Tried that, years back. Didn't work- the spring flexes too much.

I suppose I could try powdercoating, but it seems a bit ridiculous to pay $100 to powdercoat a $12 spring that's probably just going to crack the coat anyway.

OK, now that is kind of brilliant.....

 

Just ordered me another UltraGauge today from the GB.

The one I have now is 8 yrs old & the corner of the display is fading out. Still works perfectly fine but I wanted another one.

 

Fckn aye, plastidips useless they say.

 

Have to rough up the chrome or nickel plating really good or paint or powdercoat won't stick. Bead blast would be best before paint but yeah as suggested Plasti Dip would be the easiest & cheapest solution.

 

I don't like PlastiDip for the reasons people usually use it, covering emblems and wheels, it just ends up looking shitty quickly if its used outdoors. But it makes a very nice interior trim paint, most importantly after drying it doesn't smell hardly at all and even that wears off after a day or two.

I need to dip my emblems....

 

I must be inexperienced with plasti dip cause I never liked the way my grille emblem came out with plasti dip, tried 3 times. I ended up roughing up the chrome & painted it flat black, then I was happy.

I'm not a fan on plasti dip for automotive use really. I only use it for tools like it was originally intended.

 

I’d would just take the badges off but I feel like I’ll find a nice shadow behind them from sun fade.

I’ve dipped a lot of thing on my other truck, but I’ll probably just dip the emblems on this, maybe.


Might have to decide between food and a can of dip on of these days.

 

I don't think I've ever used plastidip to make a tool handle, didn't seem durable enough. I had two of my favorite pairs of pliers grips start coming off so I pulled them off the rest of the way and shot some black high strength silicone in the grip hole and shoved them back on the tools and let them set. That holds super well

 

You could skip the chew and buy 2 cans of PlastiDip for the same price
