Hooking up the idatalink maestro RR

Does anyone know about the Maestro RR setting "Accessory during crank"? This option is grey on my menu, but I would like to enable it. Also, how did you integrate factory Aux cable using TO1 harness? There's an RCA Aux option and a 3.5mm aux that comes from the RR module.

 

I didn’t notice the accessory during crank setting. Where are you seeing that? That may be for vehicles that do not have an accessory wire at the stock radio harness.

Why do you want accessory lead to be powered during crank? It’s generally not preferred, because the starter needs all the resources to start the engine.

Yea, the factory aux cable is able to be retained. Pretty sure it’s the 3.5mm one you use. I’d have to go back and look at the installation manual. I never used the stock aux in or USB port. So I deleted it in favor of a front camera switch.

 

The "Accessory during Crank" is in the "Oem Settings" on my pioneer menu. You have to navigate to the Maestro RR settings and under those options somewhere you'll find the "Accessory during crank". I don't think the issue with powering accessory during crank is to help the starter; it's likely b/c the starter drops the voltage quite a lot and the accessory circuits aren't designed to be fully tolerant to this brown out.

I would like to see if anyone with a Tacoma can actually change the "Accessory during crank" option because I can't access this option in my module/firmware; I don't like how the radio reboots when I start the truck.

There are two "Aux" inputs in the Maestro T01 harness, it seems. One comes from the module as a 3.5mm labeled "AUDIO CABLE" in the wiring diagram and the other comes from the harness as two RCA's in the diagram labeled "AUX IN" (I circled both and their mention in the instructions). In my radio/truck the 3.5mm "Audio Cable" doesn't seem to do anything with the factory Aux. When I take the RCA AUX pair and adapt them to 3.5mm I get audio from the OEM aux. Anyone know what the deal with these two wires is?

 

It has nothing to do with accessory tolerance to low voltage. The function of an automobile is transportation. In order to transport, the engine has to run. For the engine to run, it has to be started. There are also control units that must be powered, like the ECU that runs the engine. Starting and running is primary, accessories are secondary.

If you absolutely must have the radio on while cranking, just run the red wire of the TO1 harness to the red wire w/black stripe off the ignition switch.

 

I know how to wire it off a 12v source that persists through the crank. I’m asking if anyone else see’s the maestro “Accessory during crank” feature. It is a feature that comes with the module.

I ended up calling Maestro and they claim the "Accessory during crank" feature is disabled for the Tacoma because it's not possible to do. I think it's more likely that it wasn't convenient to do, but at least we know what the deal is.

I finished installing my Maestro RR module yesterday and everything appears functional. I updated my audio thread for the Maestro RR details; In my opinion this module is much better than the PAC RP4.2-TY11. I totally regret starting with PAC.

A few posts back in post #86 I posted a picture and circled two cables "AUX IN" and "AUDIO CABLE". According to the rep I talked to at Maestro the "AUDIO CABLE" is for OEM chimes and sounds and the "AUX IN" is actually the OEM auxiliary integration. As far as I can tell the Tacoma doesn't have any OEM chimes so I left the "AUDIO CABLE" out of my install & I did verify that the RCA "AUX IN" pair does integrate the factory 3.5mm auxiliary jack.

I also want to say that the Maestro RR seems to not have any problems with the battery being disconnected. It doesn't appear to have any volatile configuration. The PAC module I replaced with the Maestro RR had all kinds of problems after you disconnect the battery and it required opening the dash to re-program.

 

Where did you get your under HVAC switches from? Looks good.

not sure which he got but if you go aob, they have Toyota specific fit switches in different colors. maybe look at those until he replies?

 

Cool. Do you know if they are flush. Got a hand me down from a friend that fits but the actual button sticks out. I like flush. #1stworldproblems

Those at the bottom are CH4x4 switches.

Yes, they are flush. Also, with CH4x4 you can make custom switches rather than just picking from what they have listed.

Nice of you to say, but there are some amazing machines here on the forum that are worlds ahead of mine. My truck is a noob compared to some of the others I’ve seen.

I just got partially defeated today trying to do a new stereo install on my 2014 Tacoma. When I install everything as described in the instructions for the HRN-RR-TO1 harness kit from idatalink, my OEM backup camera absolutely will not work. I'm chapped that these guys sell something that doesn't work and don't offer any tech support, but I think I found a solution involving a different wiring path in this YouTube video:

My second question goes back to the parking brake by-pass. I want to run Android Auto through the new head unit, but the app on my smart phone keeps telling me it won't make the hand-shake with the Kenwood DDX9704S until I apply the park brake. I guess it's looking for the head unit to tell it that it's been applied. Can someone educate me on what I need to do here? I can run the Kenwood parking brake switch wire around the Maestro harness, but I'm not sure if it's looking for 12V, a ground, or something else???

 

I don't mind that they don't give good instructions, but the thing that drives me crazy is that they don't tell us what pin-mode/function each wire on the module is using. Maestro has a forum where you can ask questions about the harness, I think you'll have good luck there for specific maestro questions. http://www.12voltdata.com/forum

I'm not sure if parking brake is LOW V or HIGH V, but lets assume an active parking brake is a LOW signal. Some of the units require you to go LOW, HIGH, LOW in order for the unit to think the parking brake is on.
