Tips and Tricks on the 3rd Gen Tacoma

I have a sport. I leave the lights on all the time, they shut off when I lock vehicle. They are basically auto lights. It does not say auto on the light arm, just says lights.

 

My 2018 Off road manual with tech only has auto brights.

 

I discovered when you walk up the truck with the key in your pocket, the interior lights come on. I thought I left the interior lights on. Cool feature.

 

all of the trucks have auto-off lights and you can set the time they stay on after the vehicle is turned off. the feature being referred to in the previous few posts is auto-on lights... that is, lights that turn on when it gets dark outside. you can leave yours on all the time right now, but that's what they are.. on all the time even when it's sunny outside. true auto-on headlights run the DRLs when it's bright outside and switch to the headlights when it gets dark.

that's not the feature being referred to as auto-headlights. auto-bright lights is part of the safety sense package and all 18s have that, regardless of trim level.

 

I don't think mine can turn on interior lights with the headlight switch.

 

Is there a certain setting for this because I do not think mine does it.

 

I didn't adjust anything. But I'm guessing it's inside entune.

 

I'm not sure if there is a setting or if it comes with premium package. Mine does it and I have my puddle lamps wired into this. Only works if doors are locked and you walk up to it. For some reason if truck sits for more than a week it also doesn't work but after that its works again.

 

I am having trouble with my auto headlights. I set the time to each of the three options: 0 seconds/60 seconds/90 seconds "Time elapsed before headlights automatically turn off after doors are closed."

My lights do not turn off with any setting above. I have to manually turn the auto lights off. The bad part on turning the lights off is the Daylight Running Lights do not automatically come back on. So if I drive to work at night and turn my lights off, when I leave in the morning I have to remember to turn the DRL's back on.

sort of a pain with my memory!

Is there maybe something I am doing wrong?

What exactly does the 0 seconds mean to you? I thought setting to that would automatically turn the lights off when I turn off the engine and open/close a door.

 

I was hesitant at first to do this because I have no rattlecan skills. Cleaned it up real good with warm soap and water, used a scotch pad to score it a little. Used rustoleum high heat flat black, no undercoating. Big piece of cardboard to block overspray, blue painters tape on pipe to give a clean edge. Turned out perfectly and has been holding up very well.

Just upgraded to 285/70/17 tires and there is an obvious discrepancy between speedometer and actual speed (especially at higher speeds). Is there a way to recalibrate the SD?

 

I dunno if you can alter the speedo but you can use this to find the difference on a few speeds

Just learned something I never knew about my Tacoma...lane change, just a quick flick, let go and it continues for 3 cycles; no need to hold the stalk down when changing lanes.

 

Yep, that's #28 in the original post, waaaaay back on page one. By the way, that value can be changed from 3 to 5 or 7 (in case 3 blinks isn't enough), I had mine changed to 5.

Odd question, as this is my first truck with push-button and keyless start, if one were to exit the car in park and NOT shut the engine off, does the engine automatically turn off once the keyfob is a certain distance away from the vehicle?
