    X2 Awesome truck!

The area from the B Francis Peak (AKA Farminton Peak) I know like the back of my hand. There is some fun wheeling to be had but mostly just some incredible views and a good place to go in the middle of the summer to escape the heat.

It's a nice drive. Let me know if you're interested, I can give directions or we can set up another run and get some people out again.

We tried the winch first and it was just pulling me in while the stuck truck didn't seem to budge. It was pretty much resting on the cross member and rear axles with the drivers tires touching only enough to leave rubber when given gas.

Maybe some 285mm tires would've had a little more traction, but it was pretty loose stuff up there. Guess we could've anchored the truck and kept trying, but with how things were sitting, I felt a lot better pulling the truck back down the trail instead of up. With how the tires were angles, I was a bit worried about snapping one of his axles or bending control arms or something bad.

How is it compared to what we did at 5 mile? From your pics, it looks like about the same type of trails, but then again, those look like they might just be bike trails. It looks like thats about a 30 mile run each way from the B. Think they'll be time to do it and get back down in a reasonable time frame? (Of course we could always go down towards Farmington to get out and we wouldn't be doubling back quite as much.)

I guess if time is really an issue, we could always skip the lake and just head up there from Farmington, which looks like it would cut the drive in half.

I dont know. I've never been there and not really familiar with much of anything north of Salt Lake except for the occasional trips to Lagoon and Bear Lake when I was a lot younger.

If you're willing to lead people around, I think it sounds like a great idea to check it out. If you're thinking about a major get together, July will probably be a bad month for a lot of people with families with the 4th and 24th weekends. On the other hand, if you wanted to just show a handful of people around at a spur of the moment type of thing, I'd love to tag along and have a look. Fridays are about the only day that consistently doesn't work for me and can usually get away with only a day or two notice.

Another thing that Wasatch Cruisers has done is taking a trip around the great salt lake. From the pics, it looks more like a scenic thing, visiting ghost towns and other locations, but it might be something thats fun to do, spouse/kid/pet friendly, and learn a little more about our state history. Do you know anything about that area?

I know theres also some trails to do around American Fork Canyon, but some of the pics I've seen of that just seem a bit on the rough side for me. But then again, I'm just going by pics and there may be ways around the obstacles.

Oh, just to add to the event, I didn't take pics, but did have my gps running the whole time. One of the files in the zip contains the Google Earth kmz which is pretty cool to see where we went. There's also a mps and a txt file of our journey if you have your own mapping software.

I tried to do a jpg of the trail, but I dont think it came out very well with the forum resizing.

There are some West Desert trails too. A bit of stuff around Lucin, The historic Railroad trail up over the North end of the GSL, should be some stuff into Skull Valley, you could drive further down the Pony Express Trail than just to 5 mile pass on out Simpson Springs and such. most of that is supposed to be pretty easy though.

Its just a Garmin Nuvi 1350T. Nothing fantastic, but it gets the job done.

The map software from the screenshot is MapSource. Anyone can download and use that. http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209

The map itself is came from http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/state/ut I believe it is the US Planimetric - North West and US Planimetric - South West maps to get all of Utah. They're self installing exe's.

The main Garmin map is almost 5gb in size, and really wouldn't be legal to distribute, but the above maps are more detailed anyway. Just no places of interest (restaurants, banks, gas, etc) and not sure if route calculations would work or not.

http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/technical-chat/44672-free-topographical-maps-garmin-nuvi-gps.html covers a lot more into it, but most of it is directed towards getting the maps on the Garmin. With out the Garmin, you just have to download MapSource and any maps you want.

After looking at the calender I might not be around that weekend. It's the weekend of my wife's birthday and I think we will be at Bear Lake. But don't let my absence hold back another trail run. July for me is pretty packed but the end of July and most of August is good for me.
