    Planned Trips:

Arctic Circle 2019 (Cancelled: Bought a new house and took a promotion at work that delayed it, then COVID hit). May revisit the plan now that I live in Seattle and it saves about 3 days of driving.

Leave friday mid-afternoon, June 7th. SLC to Calgary, Up to Whitehorse via Banff and Jasper NPs on the Icefield parkway. Head north from there to Inuvik, then make the 75ish mile push to Tuk. Road was just established last year, used to only be airplane accessible. From there, head back down to Whitehorse, then come home through BC and western Washington. Aiming to be home Wednesday the 26th to have enough vacation for Xmas. My boss said he'd let me slide if I went over a few daysif I only took this trip and xmas, so I'll likely take all the way to the 29th or 30th. Gonna be passing through or nearby to Fernie, Kamloops, Nelson, Kelowna or Whistler/Van depending on where we re-enter the states. Super tempted to bring my bike with so much great riding en route, but the guy coming with me is by no means a biker...or in shape, plus I don't wanna destroy my bike up north with all the rugged roads and commit quite a bit of bed space on a DCSB. Not sure what I want to do just yet about that. ~6500 miles, and a horrifying gas bill, but a great trip.

    Gonna see:
    2+ Canadian national parks
    Hot spring in Laird River
Swim in the Arctic Ocean (for like 5 seconds)
    Ride a moose? :notsure:
Camp on an abandoned cold war airstrip (with a resident Griz says some)

    My main goal:
Find a bitching fur seal hat.

    Baja MX 2020 (cancelled: COVID)

    The Day I bought it:

Bought my 2015 TRD Offroad 1 year used on 02 Nov 2016. Had been looking for a 2nd gen, and ended up finding one literally across the street. Basically stole it, pretty sure my sales guy got fired over it.

Yeah. I'm pretty stoked for this trip. Honestly the first one that has had me up a few nights just thinking about stuff. 2.5-3 weeks on the road will be a major test of all the things I thought I had settled, but never have been able to test for more than about 3-4 days. That seems to be the limit where you can get lazy and slide and still be ok.

Yeah, its one of those weird things where I love my truck the way it is, and have plans for some stuff, but I'm "done"ish which I have said now about 4 times...but then you see a clean "new" truck and it makes you appreciate the simplicity.

Its also a toss between "So that's where an entire house down payment went" mixed with the good feeling that a lot of my friends and connections these days are based around toyotas, be it through TW, UTOR, and related venues, to those I've met on trails, trailheads, and parking lots around town.

Yeah I can see that. Sounds like you're giving yourself plenty of time to look at everything which is key. If this was a spur of the moment kinda thing I would worry a little more haha

Ha. A lot of the people that I talk to said to take "at least a month" to do that route. Looking at all the stuff I WANT to do, I can honestly believe a month to 6 weeks is needed to feel like you scratched the surface. Of course the people I talked to either have their own business and can work on the road, or are freelance and can bust ass all winter, then party for extended periods in the backcountry come summer.

Yeah I've gone back and forth with mine. I would love to start building it out but I love the simplicity of just a clean truck. Plus, I'm still trying to get into a house so I probably won't go too crazy till then. My plan is in a couple years to get a newer Tundra and keep my white taco then build up the Taco and keep the Tundra basic for city driving and driving the fam around. How is UTOR these days? I left that group a while ago because there were just a bunch of pussies always whining on that page haha.

It's like TW. It has its gems, and the whiners. Just gotta take the good with the bad. That said, there is a wealth of knowledge there that's a shame to not avail myself of. I don't spend a lot of time on FB anyways though, so I guess it doesn't bother me as much.

Alright, I have a meeting in 5 and considering I ONLY go on TW at work (what else am I gonna do...MY JOB? Psssh...)

    Where the addiction started:

So I had my 1st gen from 2009-2016. For NOVA, Seattle (with a few exceptions) and LA, 2WD got me around just fine, but I tended to stay on the beaten path. But when I got to Utah in July 2016, I knew my prerunner wasn't gonna cut it for long. There was so much to do and see, and it wasn't all gravel roads to get there. That's when I joined up on a couple of FB websites dedicated to all things Toyota and 4wd.

Cut to September 2017. I had signed up for a ham radio class because it sounded like something that was interesting and technical, which for a dork like me is the perfect hobby. Halfway through class, we broke for lunch, I walk to the parking lot, and who is parked behind me but @cwhet10 . After class, we talked trucks, and figured out when knew a few of the same people.

Cue to 20 minutes later, I get home, and see a post on FB saying "sudden overnight trip. Text me for coordinates" from a mutual acquaintance named Miles. Granted I'd never really done the whole "offroad" thing before, but I decided to bite anyways. So damn glad I did. That's also the day my bank account really started to plummet. A simple overnighter up American Fork is where it all started, and the addiction to dirt and disappearing for multiple day stretches took hold.
