No Home Link??

I recently bought a 2015 DCSB TRD OR. I just noticed that it has no home link buttons at the bottom of the rear view mirror. In fact there are no buttons under the mirror at all. Is Home Link not standard? Maybe the previous owner wrecked a windshield and replaced the rear view with a cheaper one?

Any ideas?

 

I don't think it was offered in the TRD OR in 14 or 15 my 14 didn't come with it either, just a plain mirror.

 

Homelink mirrors were only included in limited edition trucks, SR5 and TRD trim levels did not get them (per the official Toyota 2015 Tacoma Brochure).

It’s likely that the truck is pre-wired for it and you could just buy the correct mirror and it would be plug and play. I’m however not an expect in 2nd gen trucks, that was just how it worked in my WRX.

 

The truck is likely wired for home link and mirror electronics, but the wiring is likely hidden underneath (or technically above) the headliner.

Well there is something to be said about looking before purchase.

Look under the headliner above the mirror if the wiring is there it is a piece of cake.

 

Would not in a million years have thought to check for this. And really I’m not upset about not having it.

 

This is great info! I popped the headliner console out and the wiring is tucked up there, plug and play as you said. There is also a precut slot where the headliner meets the window. I wonder if the upgraded mirror includes the plastic conduit to hide the wiring. Probably built in. Thanks for the post!

 

Yes, some of the Homelink mirrors that I've been checking out on ebay do come with the plastic conduit to hide the wiring.

Glad to be of some assistance. One other note you may not need to order the exact same mirror that came with your truck. Subaru “upgraded” their version of the homelink mirror to be frameless and a bit nicer overall, since the plugs and harness were identical it was plug and play. I’m not sure what mirrors would be an option for you and unless people have posted otherwise it is safest to stick with what have been OEM equipment.

Did it recently on my '14 SR5. Easy. "Hardest" part was routing the temp sensor through the firewall, so not hard at all. The truck is already wired for homelink, so its plug and play for homelink right at the top of the mirror. And getting the temp sensor wire up the a-pillar and across to the mirror is no problem either.

Its another one of those things the tacoma should come standard with at this point but doesnt, so its up to the end consumer to do it.

 

Just for fun I called the local dealership to get a price on the OEM mirror. $783. Good lord.

 

My wife worked out an install deal with a Toyota dealer when she bought her 2014 4R SR5. I took it to the place that does the work. A guy came out with the unit and what looked like a screwdriver. He was in & out of the vehicle in the blink of an eye. I suspect the vehicle was prepped from the factory to work with Home Link.

 

It is, it's plug and play as others in this thread have commented. The wiring harness is taped up underneath the headliner and can be accessed via the lighting console. The only hardware for the mirror is a single phillips head screw.

 

I just installed mine in a '15 SR5. Needed a #20 Torx to remove the OEM mirror.

All is working well except programming the Homelink. I cleared the factory setting, programmed according to instructions and nothing. Repeated at least 20 times with holding the emitter at various angles and distances from the mirror. Clearing the settings before each attempt. Anyone else had problems with the Homelink and these mirrors? I got the 453 from Bob. Thanks folks.


One a side note, psyched to have my temp display again. Living in the White Mtns NH, I find it helpful around this time of year to about May 1st...

 

In researching the mirror I’ve read lots of notes saying that if you have a newer garage door opener you may need a repeater to make it compatible with home link. I’ll see if I can find the posts.

 

My garage door opener is around 10 years old....In any case, thanks for any assistance!
