Hate to take a dig at these but they have been tried and tested in the tuner scene for years. We have found they do keep the dirt and grime out however trap moisture in causing an insane amount of rust/corrosion. Liquefied salt gets back behind them and just well.. kills.

I have a pair of Step22 boot covers but opted out of them after seeing a few come through the shop I worked at (ISC branded covers) and it was bad... If anything try one side with and the other side without. No one has ever done a test like that yet....

    Well crap:rofl:
No one told me that! I ran it by a few people, I don't think anyone had this knowledge.
I will put them to the test though... maybe plastic bag on the inside next time?

    Some stuff
    Calcium chloride is nasty stuff.
It gets bad, when it gets on something, and dries, then gets wet again, etc. Which essentially happens all winter.
I make sure everything gets a weekly trip through one of the touch free car washes every winter.

I would say your best bet would be to fluid film it and hope for the best. I have heard good things about sharkhide which I might try on the new driveshaft just to see how well it holds up. I have pretty much given up on keeping a clean looking suspension... Spent well over $4000 rehauling every component of the suspension only to have it look like crap even after mavcoat, fluid film and trying not to drive it in the winter... Plus with the way I drive the truck and the damage on the armor... it matches the rest of it.

As long as my suspension isn't squeaking like a bastard and works, I could care less how it looks. What I have learned after moddin' for a few years is this:

You want high quality gear? you have to pay for it
Got your nice new gear? Better be ready for lots of maintenance on it.
Don't be surprised when they need to be replaced sooner than OEM parts, or at least overhauled regularly.
Something will go wrong, and if you can't fix it, it's gonna get expensive and time consuming fast (dropping off to shop)

I'm at the point where if I do something I have to know it isn't going to cause SERIOUS issues (messing with my electrical in the past has done this) or be ready to just enjoy the product until its lifespan is over. Cleaning your suspension after mudding isn't bad, but doing it every time you drive in the winter isn't gonna happen.

This isn't as true for armor obviously, but for electronics and suspension, I think it's pretty accurate.

@Bruce988jl is right, it's condensation and calcium chloride slowly seeping into the neoprene. I think it was MJP that was running a similar set up in New Jersey through the winter and, when it took the boots off, it wasn't pretty at all. Those socks are ok, just have to take them off regularly to clean everything up. Definitely not a 'cover and forget' type of application.

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
Rich @Skierrichy I believe that Icons are one of the better brands for coilovers for our trucks for corrosion.

Yea I could care less about the armor unless it's making contact with a place it shouldn't be... As for the Kings I don't mind sending them in for rebuilds, however I'll probably fork up and buy a new set and flip the old one - @BananaPeelOut will likely buy it because he's bought 90% of all my old suspension components and will be buying my dakars. I'm already in the process of rebuilding a second set of LCA's with a different ball joint to test out.

I was concerned with all the electrical I was adding to the truck so I made sure it was all a separate circuit besides tapping off the battery. That way if something goes wrong a single circuit breaker disables it all.

Just ordered the IEDLS carrier bearing and some u-joints (Spicers) to rebuild my spare driveshaft.

Morning all. Silly me left the TV on at halftime to see how the 3rd quarter started. So of course I ended up watching the whole thing. :pccoffee:

Never heard of IEDLS being an option for the carrier. The only ones I found when I still had my Tacoma were OEM and Dorman (garbage) for direct fit, otherwise you could retrofit a Super Duty bearing on and solid mount the thing. I'll be curious to see how IEDLS holds up. Was it a custom order or do they actually make a unit specifically for the Tacoma? Their website doesn't seem to list a lot of parts.

It looks like a purty humming birddddd

It's technically for the ford ranger however we have the same ID - you just need to custom fit it to our trucks by rotating it 180 degrees, putting a solid piece of metal as a base and that's it. I plan on dropping it roughly about 1/2" as well (I'll measure it first and make custom shims or just cut a number of different size shims) for the lift. I currently have a 1/2" spacer on mine for the lift.

This is a link to their old closed group buy for an idea of mounting it. I plan on doing the flip style (DCLB/DCSB/AC)

That's a great option! I debated the 'wookie strength' carrier bearing but like this one a lot. Hopefully it works out.
