So I had tape over all the open holes in the motor then put a rag on top then a second rag with a road sign on top. Few weeks ago I opened the hoof to find the start of a squirrel nest. It was new and i was lucky he did not tear into anything, seeing this put me into Holy F i need to get this back together.

The old injectors were rebuilt last year and placed in ziplocked bags marked from what cylinder they came from.
I wiped out the hole where the injector sits then hit it with parts cleaner. I took each injector and put oil on the rubber seal and tried to install them into their proper home. I could not get the injector seated properly so i took a 12mm socket and put it on top and gently tapped them into seating position.

Fuel rail bolts and spacers, banjo bolts, electrical connections

Jason removed the back tire, the one that was locked up when i tried to pull it onto the trailer to bring it to the cabin. Weird he hit the drum and it spun, we were hitting this with a sledge hammer on the rim could not brake it free. He pulled the other side free also.

I cleaned up the gasket surfaces and applied rtv Gasket maker I know not the right way BUT this is only a parts truck for my RED one / play truck for at the cabin / learning experience so it has a small budget

I DID score a free well used toytec lift for it 3'' i think

    two leaf packs
two adjustable coil overs (springs are cracked off)

Anyone know the markings on the intake mean ?

So this is where it gets interesting and of course F Sakes my phone went dead so pictures from this point on are limited. The sky opened up and RAIN RAIN RAIN and cold cold wind :(

Got the injectors and intake back on and all hooked up, no missing or extra bolts no Where The F does this go, to my knowledge it is all hooked up correct.

Made sure alternator was free along with the PS pump. did not have the right tools to check the motor by hand. That's the starters job anyways

Put the 007 Taco Pro on it with a set of booster cables.

If you remember from posts way way back I had this narrowed down to what i THINK was water in the gas as this came from a local small out port community where fuel quality would be questionable and water has probably built up over time. (still a theory)

Pictures of what was in the fuel filter plastic container

and the gas / water combo in the cup was in the fuel rail

So with all the injector building i wanted to make sure it would be getting clean fuel

OFF comes the box to take the sending unit out of the tank

NOT MY PICTURE BUT I NEEDED ONE FOR REFERENCE just a google image that i marked up for explanation

So Off comes the bed in the rain,
took the clamp off the return line with a pair of pliers
tried to remove the sending line but could not as my hands were cold and i think you need a special tool ?

What a stink of bad fuel !

managed to get the sending unit out with the high pressure line still attached.

Had a look in the tank and to be honest it does not look dirty of any huge water puddles.

We did not have a hose to drain the tank came up with the idea to use the pump, took the hose off the PCV valve YELLOW and removed the pump from the sending unit frame circled red, removed the short hose and stuck the long pvc yellow hose on it and the other end in a bucket. I laid it all back in the tank hooked up the electric connections and turned on the key and the pump did not kick in to build up fuel pressure

    Clear as MUD ?

    Fuel pump never kicked in

Tried all the fuses in the cab and under the hood all seamed to be OK
    tapped on the pump
Thought it might need to be grounded through the top of tank bolts
removed the line reinstalled the sending unit, pump did not kick in

Truck turns over SLOW do to being boosted

    Pulled OBD codes nothing

We tried everything in our power that could be done with the tools we had and remember we are in the woods in the cold rain and starving living on beer, chips and left over Halloween candy

Next attempt will be with a test light to see if we are getting power to the sending unit.

If not a possible jumper wire to confirm the pump is working
research what sensors would stop a fuel pump from kicking in

    *****

At the end of the weekend i consider it as a successful trip
as the motor is back together
The box came off and i got to have a good look at it as this will be going on my red truck.
Cleaned out under the box liner as there was a lot of dirt and saw dust holding water that would rot the box out
I towed the truck next to my shed and parked it so it does not look abandoned anymore.

glad to see this build getting some love again. if the wiring and fuses are all good about all that's left is a fuel pump.

The ECM doesn't allow fuel to the engine unless it detects spark, right? I think that's right.

Check out from the 2003 FSM. hopefully 2004 is same but I don't have that manual. I believe fuel pump runs for like 2 seconds when you take key from position 1 to 2, but I can't find those pages that describe that right now.

Check out attached, this should get you closer. Note the circuit opening relay is under the dash near your steering column.
