What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Ok will grab 2 one wix one toyota filter. Cut them up i will. N show the difference. The worst filter i ever cut up was fram. Insude they look more like screens than filters.

 

I didn't know if there was a difference or not I thought perhaps valcanic ash may be more acidic which might not bode well with water. Ha, I learned something cool

 

Yeah, Fram is a joke. Wix should be the same as Napa Gold.

 

Tell me more about volcanic ash. Asking for a friend.

 

Volcanic ash is not the same at all. Wood fire ash is partially burned fiber and volcanic ash is rock dust and air born pumice(micronized foamed lava). While neither one is good for you or your engine volcanic ash is worse by far.

Volcanic ash is actually rock, glass, and other minerals.

Appreciate it! I’ve luckily never dealt with volcanic ash... I have dealt with more than my fair share of cigarette ash (college) and wood ash (current job), and just assumed they were same.

Either way, sounds like trying to remove them with air first and then water is the way to go.

 

My brother was in Moscow, Idaho while I was in Portland when Mt St Helens blew. I was on my way to visit him and when I got there the ash was like snow everywhere. They were telling people not to drive if possible and change everything, filters, fluids, anything that could contaminate moving parts. Air filters were to be changed weekly if not more often. Nasty stuff. The high acidity wrecks paint too.

Went to my buddies shop and started tearing my truck apart. Should be able to start fabbing up a few things tomorrow and start welding the rear parts in!

My Taco with 28 k miles today.

Changed motor oil, oil filter
Emptied oil catch can (amazed to see how much oil it catched after 5k miles)
I wanted to change the air filter, but it's so clean that I left it in place / The Safari snorkel with the pre-cleaner works really great !

When I have time, I need to put back my 265/70 x17 tires for the mud season.
The 285/70 x 17 rub a lot when coated with sticky mud.

Got my weathertechs installed, wondering if I made the wrong decision choosing black instead of grey.

Got my wind deflectors too, but they were outside mount which are butt ugly. Dunno how I ordered them. Returning them today, ordered the correct in channel ones last night. Should arrive Saturday.

Was using a plano box for storing most of my stuff, but since it's easy to steal if I leave it in my bed, I took everything out and fit it into any open storage space under/behind seats of truck. Talking survival kits, tools, blankets, tie downs, tarps, towels, etc. 1 less box for when I go overlanding now.
