99 Fog Light Ideas

I have a 99, and looking for ideas of where to mount the square LED fog lights without cutting away the bumper, and I would prefer not to drill into the bumpers. Any thoughts on a clean setup?

The nature of Fog Lights is that they have to be mounted on the lower bumper level. You can't mount them on a roof and call them Fog Lights .
Stock bumper does not give you much options - you will need to cut the valence it to have good working and decent looking fog lights.

I'm on the similar boat as you are for the rear fog or reverse lights. I have square flush mounted LED lights but they are to big for decent look on my rear chrome bumper. I wish they make something smaller than 3.6"x4.8".

Most of these for the 1st gen are shitty ideas IMHO. Some may look nice, but most of them turn the truck into Christmas tree, not street legal vehicle. It's OK if the truck is gonna be used off road only, but on the street not legal lights are simple dangerous. Before anyone does any changes to vehicle lighting, please read first what is the legal requirement for each light. There is a code for that. It is important for your safety and others.

An finally IMHO the product from Amazon link mounts to license plate which may be OK for some trucks, but not for stock 1st gen bumper, where the license plate is screwed straight to plastic only. I'd like something more strong as a bracket carrying few pounds. I wonder how long it take for vibration to crack and break these plastic screw holes in a bumper valence.

 

Probably later years model is better. My 1995 has just two "reinforced" holes to screw the plate (grabbing by the top of the frame). It take metal screws (not even bolts). This is how the license plate was mounted in my Tacoma (arrows point to only screws hoding the plate).




Because license plates are often stolen here (gas station scam) I have installed my new Polish plate through the same holes but I used stainless steel round bolts. They are still mounted through the plastic holes so they are kind of floppy, but secured from non-brutal force theft.



But as you can see I would not put anything heavier than few ounces on that screws.

I’m curious how my 99 is configured. There are currently zero holes in the bumper, but there are two indents in the plastic, probably to be drilled for a front plate.

 

I installed 2 Baja S2 Pros beside my front plate. Removed bumper, drilled into crash bar, mounted and reinstalled the bumper. With these as small as they are, probably could have mounted these in the bumper plastic itself with no issues. Keeps the sleek Gen 1 front end clean and provides enough light for my applications.
