    Hi all,

Excuse my lack of knowledge on the subject, but just trying to understand the difference between say the OME BP-51 kit which is priced at approximately $3100, and their other kits priced at approximately $1300.

Looking to go with some kind of kit, (can be other manufacturers, I just know the OME’s meet the following criteria) that adds about 2 inches of lift, doesn’t mess with factory components too much, and ultimately combines whichever components work well together, as in, either a fully put together kit, or a kit that adds on say a specific leaf pack or set of UCA’s, etc.

Just trying to learn from the group, avoid past mistakes, and get the best bang for the buck and try to do it as right as possible the first time around. Thanks in advance!

Best bang for the buck for what do you want the truck to do; look 2 inches taller as a daily driver spent 90% time on paved road or absorb washboard surfaces daily at speed because you live on a rotted dirt road and are worried about wearing out your existing suspension?

Intended use dictates what you should need to go up 2 inches.

I did this 18 months ago because I spend 85-90% of the time onroad with a +40 mile daily commute.

If you spend more time offroad or in more extreme conditions you might consider something else more performance oriented (expensive) suited to those needs.

Thank you for the great questions and info as they definitely help sort out what would be best suited for the truck.

From going through your post, it sounds like I would be in a similar boat as you where I will more than likely continue to spend 85-90% of the time on paved surfaces and then hit some beaches and trails, weekend warrior style. Ultimately looking for a slight level up on the off-road capabilities, a slightly more aggressive stance, maintain the factory rake, the ability to go a little bigger than stock on the tire, but also add whatever upgrades would be advantageous to avoid any troubles down the road like vibrations, bad alignments, weak links, etc.

    Lots of sail boat fuel
Solid advice above. The Old man emu and bilstiens are real common on here for well priced lifts

I've been very happy with my lift choice, have 15k miles on it, makes for a comfortable driver, minimal wear on components to keep things within warranty, gas mileage and acceleration did not take a hit to degrade performance. Very pleased indeed.

And it didnt break the bank.

The price of the OME BP-51 seems steep when you could spend as much (maybe a tad more) and get ADS, King, or the new Bilstein 8112's.The BP-51's run a 51mm piston, where others run a 60mm piston. All of these are for offroading, but can obviously be used on a daily driver. As the others have said. It is based on your needs.

the Bilstein 6112/5160 kit seems to have alot of positive reviews. I had the OME Medium nitro charger kit (front/rear shocks and dakar's) before upgrading to coil-overs in the front and I didn't like how crazy stiff and jarring they were. I have coil-overs now and its way better ride, comfort, and performance both on and offroad. I do still have the OME rears and I can feel the difference between the front and rear....can't wait to upgrade the rears.

It all depends on how much you want to spend to go offroad.

I think that’s part of what I’m looking to sort out. The truck is my daily driver so definitely am not looking to go too crazy off road at this point.

Also, considering $1500 is not a small amount of money to me, if a more capable kit is say $2-$2500, I’d rather just invest a little more up front and drop the $2500 once as opposed to $1500 now and then $2500 later.

Again, not needing the most aggressive truck ever, but definitely want to find a balance and learn from everyone’s experience. So I appreciate everyone’s thoughts and contributions as they really do help me sort through a number of unknowns.

Based on that budget, I'd recommend 6112/5160 Bilstein kit, 3 leaf progressive AAL and depending on front clip settings, leave room in the budget for SPC or JBA UCAs for a decent alignment.

It's a decent "set and forget" kit well within that $2500 budget.

I wouldnt recommend coilovers if you live in an area with salted roads in the winter.

Do you tow or have plans for weight in the rear with a bed cap? Then plan on custom leafs.

Bilstein 6112s are coilovers. Why do so many people eschew that description for them? If you want to differentiate them from the higher end stuff wouldn’t those be called ride height or damping adjustable coilovers?

    Good advice!

I would just change to a Dakar or Deaver leaf pack. It’s a bit more money but a purpose built pack will beat adding leafs to the mediocre OE pack.

Ok, I dont recommend ADJUSTABLE coilovers in a salty environment due to the maintenance required to keep them clean.

I’m not picking on you personally! Almost everybody does that here.
