Muffler, Weld or Clamps?????

So my new WickedFlow muffler should be coming in any day, I have been going back and forth if I should have it welded it or just clamped it????? What is your opinion about it. What is better?????

 

I guess weld it it looks cleaner as well.

 

I would use the clamps until I got it to the exhaust shop where they can weld it. That's about as far as I'd go with clamps.

Are you installing a muffler only?

If yes....I would only use the clamps until you are ateast happy with the quality, sound, performance of the muffler. At that time - if you are happy with it - you can decide if you want it welded (and can leave the clamps on).

 

My muffler setup is clamped but of course welding would be the better option. One of these days I will go through and tac weld it wherever necessary.

 

welds not only look cleaner but also less chance of having exhaust leaks...

 

Same here....had planed on getting it welded sooner but just haven't gotten around to it yet...

 

Something to think about......

The only real chance of having it welded and avoiding leaks - would be to have it welded while the exhaust is 'off' the truck.

Trying to have someone weld it while the exhaust is still mounted on the truck, is very difficult to weld the top parts of the tubing, depending on clearance.

 

most times when exhaust/muffler shops are going to weld any part of the exhaust setup they remove the exhaust to do a better job at welding...

only lazy people would try to weld while the exhaust is still on the vehicle...

 

Then I'm lazy then...THanks. My husband and I put a Flowmaster dual exhaust kit on the truck ourselves. If you know anything about these kits, the hardest part is lining everything up, getting the tubes twisted for exact placement at the exits, making sure there's clearance everywhere,etc.
Clamp it all together and I'm sure as hell not removing it again after all that work. I had it welded...stitch welded to be exact. But that's certainly not gonna control leakage. It was to help prevent it from moving.

So - depends on what your sole purpose is for getting it welded. For leakage prevention or holding it together.

 

Weld you would spend the thirty bucks in clamps anyways

 

what kinda muffler is it? if it's a straight through design like a glasspack or magnaflow you don't have much to worry about in the way of leaks if it's a welded style muffler(like flowmaster) you might wanna weld it. (i start a thred about turboing my truck nobody replies you include a poll and suddenly everyone comes clicking fml )
