    Hey All,

I'm considering getting an ARB bumper for my truck (Black 2007 Tacoma DC 4WD) and was wondering if anyone out there has pictures of theirs on their truck - particularly a black DC. I love the idea of having the functionality of an ARB bumper, with the air-bag compatibility and general sturdiness, but am not sure if I like the look of it. I like the look of the All Pro bumper more, but I don't think it is as well built as the ARB bumper, or offer as much protection. I'm currently under the impression that the All Pro bumper is made of folded sheet metal; this seems incredibly weak to me. I would use 3/16 plate steel if I were to build one myself. If I hit something, I want to be able to drive away from it (within reason). I also want to be able to install a winch.

Do you all have any other suggestions that I might be missing. Pictures are most appreciated.

    Thanks!

Those are some nice looking bumpers! Do you have any pictures with them outfitted? i.e. the pre-cut holes actually filled with something; lights, winch etc.

I don't want to offend any propriety information, but do you have blueprints/pictures of the inside of the bumpers? I'm studying mechanical engineering and would be interested to see how it is built, as well as how it looks. I'll definitely keep these in mind - might be the perfect design between All Pro and ARB. Thanks!

Not really with both, but here's one with a winch:

Actually, I'm also a mechanical engineering college student, so I've taken things from my classes into consideration when designing it. Let me look for a pic of the back side.....

So I noticed that the winch appears to mount behind the lowest horizontal "slit" in the front of the bumper; what is the top "slit" for?

These bumpers look really great by the way.

the top cutout is so you can see the cable when you're re-spooling it so it can be wrapped cleanly and to avoid binding the cable, etc.
And thanks for the compliment. I took some time and careful consideration when designing it.

Ahhhh, that makes sense. Sounds like that part of the design came from practical experience :)

Have you ever hit anything (or have any pics of other people hitting something) with this bumper? One on my priorities in an off-road bumper is the ability to hit something (within reason) and be able to drive away unscathed. I can also partially justify the expense if I can reasonably expect the bumper to offer more protection in the event of an accident. Thanks for the dialogue!

I hit a Large tree branch, didn't do anything to the bumper, but put a nice big dent in my fender and door.

Ha, actually I bumped a few trees on a VERY tight trail this past weekend. I literally has to fold my mirrors in to fit between some trees, and when its that close it was better to nudge the bumper than back up and risk bumping the side of the truck on something. One tree was about 18" across and solid- it just nudged me back to where I was trying to go and scuffed off the bedliner I coated it with. Other time was on the same trail, but I nudged a smaller tree, about a 10" fir tree and it swayed the whole tree but didnt budge the bumper. Member all.on.black can vouch for it, he was spotting me at the time and it looks like he's hitting me up for one to replace his Allpro front bumper.

Hey I just noticed you are from Oregon, where are you going to school? I grew up on Pumpkin Ridge outside of North Plains, OR (off HWY 26). My father now lives in Hillsboro, OR (where I go when school's out). I'm doing a dual degree out in Atlanta with Emory University and Georgia Tech. Do you have a physical location in Oregon. It would be worth a drive to see a bumper in person and avoid the shipping.

Ok, so in this pic(sorry its a little blurry) if you notice on the drivers side of the bumper, the paint is scraped off from the tree. Thats where I hit and nudged off of....

Ha, no shit! I have a bunch of friends that go to OIT. I used to live in the metal shop of my high school (Glencoe). In fact, I went to school with Thomas Logan Brown, who is at OIT now. We built aluminum drift boats together (Both welders). Since then I moved up to designing and machining research equipment for Professors at Emory University in our dedicated machine shop. I know that Thomas was working as a machinist for a while too.

Ha, I know Tom!:D I've taken a fair number of classes with him. He was the roommate of one of my best friends from my 1st year up there. Do you know Casey Depeel by chance? I think he went to that HS as well....

Nice man, looks like you produce a solid product!

Another design question: are the circular cutouts next to the winch slits meant for off-road lights, or do they have another purpose?
