TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

Listen the belt and free spin the blower as well as rock it back and forth like @JacksonTacoma (I think) did a few weeks ago.
Try to locate the source of the sound.

Jonbondperformance has couplers as well as s/c fluid. Couplers should be easy to get.

 

My be sounded exactly like a box of rocks when the factory spring coupler went out. There’s a lot of places to get the coupler, I got mine when I rebuilt my supercharger at Jon Bond

 

Thanks. Sounds right at the pulley snout.just got to work and have no means of checking but I'm leaning towards the coupler being it. Am I able to drive it safely? Should I stay out of boost?

 

You'll be okay. Of course it depends on the severity of the noisy as well.

The couplers are usually first to fail before anything else. Just buy a rebuild kit and save the rest of the parts for later down the road.

Or you could buy the coupler itself. Either way.

 

Doesnt sound like rocks at all. Just a mild buzz like a card in bike spokes.

 

So should I take it easy? Or drive as usual? Kinda pissed off. My dad is visiting tmrw and wanted to show it off. Damn!

 

Any time you have abnormal sounds you want to take it easy and isolate the source as quickly as possible.

A hum sounds more like a bearing to me. Check the oil level.

A coupler, oil, and anaerobic gasket maker is cheap and easy to replace. A rebuild is much more expensive but pretty much guarantees you will have the parts needed to fix whatever problem is.

 

Thanks. I'll buy a kit on ebay. I have oil and a syringe. The timing of this is just not ok.

 

I hear ya buddy. It may just be low on oil.

 

Hmm. Without any leaks how could that happen? I can do an oil swap today at least.

if its not too much trouble, would you be able to take pics of the snout removed and how the internals to all that look like? I have not seen that (nor have I searched yet to be honest), but when I was checking out the bearing/lube kits from the ebay search mentioned above, I just have no idea how all that looks inside. If you dont have the time, no worries. This is something I figured we'd all encounter one day anyway so it'd provide the false sense of security of me knowing what I'm doing....like the rest of my projects haha

Probably just minor unscheduled maintenance. I am a pro at overcomplicating the simplest of procedures however.

 

I know someone posted pictures of swapping over the busted snout coupler to a solid one recently on here. I'll look for it later and post the link to the post so we are all not searching like crazy for it.
