There's no way to be prepared for everything.

That's kinda like...offroading. You can carry tools and some spare parts, but there's no way you can be prepared for everything that happens.

I've had a good life....If the world goes down in a shitstorm, I don't wanna stick around to see it all. As long I have my husband by my side - that's all my heart & soul really need.

If I've learned anything from the stuff I've read, it'd be to get out of major metro areas and head for suburbia/ rural countryside. Ideally I'd head toward the mountians, but being smack dab in the middle of flyover country, it'd take a while.

whoever said gold...have fun lugging that shit around...my .22 would be worth more than gold in the event of you thinking your gonna need gold.

but as said before to each their own.

The main problem with gold -- in the event of a financial meltdown -- is that it really holds no value other than what the person you are trying to barter it to values it as. It's kind of like baseball cards.

If you're holding onto it for the purposes of a resurgence in the local/global economy, you're probably better off burying it and coming back once it rebounds.

Gold itself really holds no pharmalogical or technological value, opposed to plating on some minor electronics, so in an survival situation, it would probably be more of a hindrance than an asset.

thats what I was thinking. In a surviaval situation it holds no value whatsoever. Id rather have an empty water bottle than some gold coins...

In a way I envy you for feeling as such, but being I have a small child, she deserves that I make every preparation in order to preserve her life in the event of a catastrophe.

A shotgun is great and all, over all versatility though, go with a .22LR. Sure it's a small caliber, but it does the job, think how easy it is to carry 500 rounds of 12 gauge compared to 500 rounds of .22LR........same size as one box of 12 gauge. Again it's a small round, but in certain situations it's all about shot placement:cool:

Bug out bag, let's see I've never actually packed one, just happen to be self sufficient-
9mm pistol with about 800 rounds of ammo
12 gauge short barrel shotgun with a fair assortment of shells
    22 revolver and a box of 500 rounds-backup
    truck bed tent for shelter
sleeping bag with blow up mattress, runs off of cig lighter
    flares/fusees
    utensils
    several knives
    compass
    solar powered watch(always on me)
    CB
tools and whatnot for repairs, etc.
    first aid kit
    change of clothing
hand crank flashlight and railroad led lantern
    2 spare tires
    spare cv

    You know, the usual

Foglights are for fog, not oncoming traffic!
    I know...same thing I thought.
    Question re gold.
Would you rather have $10000 cash in your BOB or 20 1/2oz gold coins?
