I've added a bunch of heavy stuff to my 2014 Tacoma and I'm looking at getting the most naturally aspirated horsepower out of my 1GR-FE to see if I can get it to perform better at elevation without the need to supercharge. My plan is to do it in stages and if I do end up supercharging down the road, the mods I previously made will let the supercharger perform even better.

At the moment, I'm looking at building a cat-back exhaust and am looking at all the y-pipes available while I'm there. My hope is that the modded y-pipe will free up some flow in addition to tucking it into the truck better than the OEM routing that hangs below the tranny cross-member. Roostfactor builds the coolest looking y-pipe out there and while I'd love to have one of his, it looks like a pretty long wait list. Since I'm impatient, I'm looking at the mass-produced ones at this time.

So...who makes the best-routed, free-est flowing, mass produced y-pipe (AFE, URD, Doug Thorley, JBA, etc.)? Bonus points for a link to a dyno chart with real world results. My searches aren't cutting the mustard.

    Thanks for the help!

I'm curious about this too. Was thinking of maybe having one made up.

Maybe 2 to 5hp. Factory flows just fine. Cats may stop a little flow but doesnt matter until you start running induction on a factory motor. Been in the diesel industry for years and have to explain the same to those people. You can spend the money if it makes you feel better.

I’m running the URD equal length y-pipe, and I have no complaints about it. Well made, zero problems with install, and it killed 2 CATs... win, win, win.

I most definitely want a JFR Y-pipe! They look so trick!! But, as mentioned in the original post, the wait times look long in addition to the cost being a bit prohibitive for me.

URD has got a Cyber Monday sale going on tomorrow. Likely to pull the trigger on one of theirs if the price is right. Even if there are only nominal gains, getting it re-routed from where it sits is worth the cost of admission. I can't believe Toyota would engineer an exhaust pipe to hang that low and be that exposed on a 4x4.

when finding and installing a used Y pipe with any corrosion on it

Do you just slap it on?
Or is it a good idea to do any kind of abrasion, prep, then coating
Even high Temp exhaust paint to keep it simple

Rather have something last 10yr and not need messing with than rust outIMG_6044.jpg

don’t know if this is something to drop off at a powdercoat shop masked off for only sand blasting that might be $40
As sanding and putting rust converter 1. Is a pain and 2. Rust converter underneath may not withstand heat and start chipping off compromising any high temp paint sprayed on top of it
