5VZFE spark plugs

I changed my spark plugs out yesterday and i had been running NGK BKR5EGP single electrode plugs for the past 2 years now and the appeared to be burning a little too hot so i finally changed them and went with the original plugs the

$7 NGK BKR5EKB-11 NGK Spark Plug Stock # 3967

NGK BKR5EKB-11 or 3967 dual electrode plugs and they make it run so much smoother! I never bought into the whole plug thing before but this will make you a firm believer.

 

There is a reason all those Toyota engineers used dual plugs in them originally.

When I was into motorcycles a couple 1000 years ago, the best tune-up a bike could have was a new set of spark plugs.

 

This is what I pulled out and replaced with @ ~170k miles. Not sure if the previous owners had the plugs done at a stealership or independent shop, but either way they used the wrong plugs and now the taco is noticeably spicier.

 

The ones that came out of my 2001 were the same way. Double on one side and single on the other, but one of those looks like iridium? Is the single an NGK?

I run

$5 Denso K16R-U11 Denso 3120 Spark Plug

Denso K16R-U11, the OEM alternate for my 2.7L
But it might be time to change them... so thanks for the inspiration.

 

That’s exactly how mine was and it definitely is spicier now lol

 

The stores sell both single and double electrode ngks. Also regular and iridium type in both. You just about have to make them look for them unless you find and give them the part number on the app or online.

 

I always thought it looked a little far out on those single electrodes but also don’t know what it’s supposed to be for something like that.

 

The 4 bangers run best with the U11's, no need to change to anything else there.

 

Isn't it interesting the way the 5VZ-FE wears out spark plug. That's because the anode and cathode of the spark plugs are reversed compaired to the drives side verses the passenger side plugs. Meaning the passenger center electrode is a more negative voltage and the drivers center electrode is more positive. Since electron flow is from negative to positive and erosion of an electrode is on the negative side, that why the passenger and drivers side wear different.

 

Sorry for the thread bump but I too replaced my plugs. From Single electrode NGK copper to dual coppers. The wires are also brand new. It runs & idles perfectly normal just like before but it feels less responsive after the duals went in.
Any thoughts or am I just crazy?

 

What did you gap them to?

Also did you torque the plugs or just tighten by feel? How many inch pounds did you torque to?

 

Now I'm interested. I've never torqued spark plugs. Watching to see where this goes . . .

 

I thought it was something like 13 ft lbs.

I'm not sure about the use of copper plugs. I just use the dealer recommended Denso/NGKs.
