Cut the cats?

I was thinking about cutting the back 2 cats that are on the Y pipe. Just cutting them and replacing them with a regular pipe. I wanted to buy a new Y pipe from URD but I dont have that kind of money right now. So what do you think? should I do it? I think it might free up a few ponies. Has any1 done this and noticed any difference? Tell me what you think. Thanx

problem..... I already have a flowmaster 50 series delta-flow. But if you want I can still send u the video. Also another question. After I cut the cats I was thinking about cutting the back tail pipe and dumping it right after the muffler. I did this with my stang and it sound freaking awesome!! I just think that if I cut the cats and the rest of the piping after the muffler it might be a bit to loud...

i live in California. exhaust restrictions are unbearable out here . so if i wanted to cut my back cats off, is there a way I can put them back on before doing smog then just remove them and have it flow to the rest of the exhaust?

 

I'm sure that you would just have to reweld them in...Or do wat I did and make a bolt on section, waaay easier for changes on my stang

 

I am sure I am going to get flamed for this LOL, but I can't believe people are going thru the trouble of removing cats on Tacomas. Go thru the trouble, spend time/money, risk fines if caught (yeah, unlikely, I know, but still), pollute more, and for what, 5 hp? It's still going to be a fat, slow truck- it's not like it'll be transformed into a 'Vette.

 

here in the Seattle, WA area they have pretty much got away from the on hood tach and tail pipe wand. The use the OBDII connector almost exlcusively. So if no codes are reported then they will not be wiser.

 

Ok, but where would I get the flanges for that? Are you using flanges or are you using just pipe and two exhaust clamps to connect the pipe together?

 

I'm using flanges that I cut off from some exhaust systems my gramps had laying around in his shop. Take a trip to a parts store Or muffler shop, one of them should carry them, if not then check out summit or jegs.

 

Nobody ever said it would gain 200hp. Our trucks are ours, and obviously we like putting hands on them, you can't blame most of us it just happens when boredom gets us. And the pollution thing? there are other trucks and vehicles out there on the road doing worse.

 

X2!! Ya we might get like 5 hp, but thats 5 hp we didn't have. And since my truck has 142,xxx miles these stupid cats are probably all clogged up and only hurting my truck.
