What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

So, what’re you going to do?

 

Leave it alone, it makes mountains of TQ and I don't really want to put a custom ECU in it. It's still serving daily duty, I don't boost dailys unless I can tune em.

I currently have trucks with one of each engine, 1995.5s. It is only on the 2.7L.

True or not, the dealer counter guy told me Toyota thought the 2.7 needed it when A/C was on and at idle. He said Toyota felt the P/S would feel too weak, so it is supposed to idle it up a bit.

Like Jamesboy said, you can plug it. They are super expensive to replace(+$200) with OEM. My Dad's got brittle and snapped and I just capped it since his AC is dead anyway. Haven't noticed any ill effect.

 

Are any Toyota computers unlocked?

 

We charge 4 hours. I don’t know the exact price

 

The newer computers can be modified since people have cracked them. Our trucks are a no go. Except maybe 03-04 ecus

 

Not that I know of, maybe some of the JDM ones.

 

What’s all this about reflashing the 03-04? What changed, all I know of is the ETCS-I system being implemented.

The have a more common NEC microcomputer in them that some of the folks who flash modern Subarus and Honda's have worked with before. They're still tough but apparently doable after some modification.

 

The ecu in my Avalon has been cracked. They can modify whatever they’re heart wants now

 

Usually I say “German Engineering” ironically, never thought it would be “Japanese Engineering” ironically. Haha.

 

They just didn't want people messing around with it, but it also makes it pretty hard to correct for modifications they didn't really prepare for. The TRD supercharger for the 5VZ is the best example. The computer is in no way prepared to deal with it and even with piggybacks it's problematic because the computers timing map is still all wrong for boost. The only person with a supercharged 5VZ that actually works all that well from what I've seen is @1997tacomav6 and I think a lot of that comes from his altitude and meth

 

Stop doing that. Just say, "I have a truck that needs an alignment." Take it in, hand them the keys and say, "There it is."

 

I’d rather have a shop who knows how to adjust SPC’s and aftermarket suspension work on it.

Yeah, I can dial in the SPC’s myself but I’d rather have the shop deal with it.

 

Most don't do that, it's just caster. Set it and forget it

 

There is no "dial in the SPCs" its pick a spot And run with it.

 

yeah I've found if you want your caster adjusted via the SPCs then do it yourself...have an alignment shop do the rest. The printout that SPC gives you (you can also download it online) showing the caster settings makes it easy to DIY

 

I’d rather have someone else deal with it to be honest with you.

 

No different than a stock control arm would be once it goes up on the alignment rack.

 

You already mounted them. What did you set them too?

I find it amazing how you apply yourself full out to some things and won't even attempt other things. Freaking weird.
