We've been kicking around ideas here:

I got the Quick Fists, just been slacking on the 2x8 to finish the first try.

Nice! Gonna give the Quick Fists a try as well, I normally do a 1 for 1 swap with Airgas for my 20 lbs tank. But also looking into the Kiddie fire extinguisher brackets as well. Also gotta get a new fixed regulator, the one on there is a cheap ebay one but has got banged around since the last Airgas tank I got didn't have a handle our guard.

Those fists are almost at the limit with my tank. But, they would do well down to an extinguisher. You can't beat the price either.

I was stoked that the dive shop that fills my tank had a reasonably priced rebuilt reg. The flow at 130psi is pretty good.

    Heck yeah.

I like what he said about being able to have a "favorite shift" with a manual. So true. I love pushing 2nd to the limit and then slamming up into 3rd in these trucks and just taking off! I also really enjoy coming into a gentle corner, blipping the throttle and downshifting into 3rd. Hmmm...I seem to really like 3rd

In my 3rd Gen (just over 1600 miles), manual transmission, I find that shifting from 1st to 2nd to 3rd feels kinda rough, unless I'm revving high. Is that the triple synchros? Also when shifting from 5th to 6th I feel a small blip/kick when I release the clutch unless I roll off the clutch. This happens to anyone else?

That is sort of typical for Pre-ECU TSBs. You might want to check if you are 04A70 or 04A71?

When I mean rough, I mean the shifting action is notchy/crunchy. Once the gear engages, its smooth sailing. So how would a ECU flash help if the notchiness/crunchiness is due to mechanical components within the transmission?

It sounds strange, but the ECU update improves shifting, including notchiness. You didn't mention crunchiness in the previous post.

Yea sorry about that, I was having trouble figuring out how to describe the sensation. Other Tacoma owners commented on another post I made and they also experience the same thing but they describe it as crunchiness/notchiness which seems more accurate lol.

No problem. The update is most dramatic for the earlier 3rd Gens, and reaction as been either that it greatly helps (most common) to no noticeable change (a few). It was a big change for me in several ways and I heard of folks with 2018s that agree. For me, instead of having to carefully shift each and every time, I can drive it like any other MT with no more clunking into gear. I saw a small power bump, about two more MPG, and the hesitation / surging is about half of what it was. This is all at least 4,000mi down the road.

Have a look at the thread:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/software-update-for-the-manual.562550/

The 1st Post has all the info to do the update yourself. Otherwise, the TSBs are linked there. With a good story and leading the dealer through the TSBs, they will sometimes do it. There is also a go / no-go dealer map in the 1st Post.

Apparently I fell off the watch list for this thread so I haven't have been seeing new posts for a while... Jumping back in!

I don't know if anyone tried Carista or TechStream to check the door lock/unlock settings like I asked a little while back, but I did get Carista finally myself and checked. Basically you can set it to lock (or not) the doors once it gets going around 10-15mph I think and then you can set it to unlock (or not) all doors when the driver's door is opened. That is it really. By default they are both turned on.

I'm not super worried about kids opening the doors while driving and I get sick of them complaining about not being able to get out once we stop until I open my door, so I just disabled the auto-lock altogether. I do wish there was a setting to just unlock them when I turn the truck off like my old Vue, but kids are old enough now that locking when driving isn't too much of a concern.

I do notice that in my 2019 also. It is notchy/clunky when engaging gears (shifting into the gear itself seems fine, but when you let out the clutch to actually re-engage). I notice it mostly when I let out the clutch without giving it much, if any, gas. That is when it seems to happen. If I'm on the throttle a bit as I let out the clutch, then it is smoother.

Since we all have key's and not fob's I can ask this question here. Sometimes my key doesn't lock or unlock the door. Seems like the battery is going out. But, when I drive around for a while and get out then the key works. Any ideas? Or just get a new battery for the key?

what's the cost? I hear the fob is almost a hundred bucks. But, that's just hearsay.

After a couple days with my 2019, I have no complaints. I was thinking of doing the accumulator delete mod, but I got used to the clutch very quickly. Has a nice weight, not much feel but better than my wife’s Forester. The problem with that car is it’s too light and the engine is too quiet. The Tacoma I can hear the very nice exhaust note even with the music up loud.

My only minor complaints, First gear is very short, which I’m sure will help when towing so it’s not really a complaint. And with the engine running you have to have the e-brake on to unlock the doors? Really? I discovered this right after swapping all the speakers, so I had all the door panels off. So I had a panic moment like did I forget to plug the switches back in?

do you guys ever have range issues with your Fobs? Mine only work like 30ft from the truck, max. Drives me nuts. My old Subaru was a solid 100yds. I'm no electrical expert so I don't know what's possible as far as extending it goes
