Are there any TSB for 3rd gen 2.7l Tacoma’s related to hesitation of throttle response going from a stop? I know the 3.5s have a flash to fix this and I know many have voiced similar issues with their 2.7, but wasn’t sure if there is already a fix. I am bringing mine in tomorrow morning for an oil change as well as have a few things looked at and plan to bring up the hesitation issue.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Wasn’t an issue with the 2.7s.

Thanks for the response, but what I am experiencing may not be the same as the 3.5 and I may have confused it as the same condition. When starting from a stop or sometimes just while trying to get up to speed on a freeway their is a significant delay between pressing the throttle down and the vehicle actually registering what I want it to do. However, it does not do this with ect on. So out of curiosity I wonder if this is something they can flash the computer to fix or if it is just the nature of their stock tuning?

I don’t know of a software flash for 2.7s. Best to have a dealer check into it and see what they come up with.

More than likely you’re seeing the software mapping at work, working as it’s designed to.

What you are experiencing is the main drawback of a fly by wire throttle. I have this all the time in steep crawling situations the slight delay between my foot hitting the pedal and the computer registering it and initiating a throttle response is enough in my case to fuck up my line or cause a stall. Some say the electronic helpers ie pedal commanders etc help but I don't have experience with those my solution is add more gears till it works

My taco has done the same thing. I have noticed it when I let my foot off the gas completely and then try and accelerate there is 1 - 1.5 second delay. It has scared me when I am crossing traffic or merging/changing lanes. Totally unsafe for a vehicle to be operating this way. I have also had hard shifts.

I took mine to the dealer and they said the problem is noted and basically what I am going to have with a drive by wire. I personally think they could tune the throttle response better to alleviate this.

Btw, @MSTCS are you in the USCG?

The tuning with these trucks is horrible. I bought the 2.7 L cause the 3.5 L was really bad in 2016. I figured if I was gonna be unhappy, I might as well keep the extra money in my pocket. I just wish Toyota would've got the engine and transmission issue right from the beginning. I've been seriously considering a Frontier because they have a better engine/transmission package.

The new ranger looks promising. 2.7 Ecoboost + 10 speed trans. You know every Tacoma owner is going to throw out some bs about reliability as their transmission looks for the right gear.

Chevy's new 2.7L is also turbo and it makes 300hp.

Everyone is doing interesting things except Toyota.

Though I suppose nothing beats a tree reliability of a NA engine

The problem is that I am a Toyota guy through and through but I just need a bit of excitement with the reliability. My jumping speedometer says otherwise about Toyota quality. Toyota needs to up live up to their reliability standards at a minimum.

10 k miles on mine , it does the same thing. I'm not bothered by it. BUT I could see how it would bother some.

Just rounded 12k on my ‘18 SR5 and I’m experiencing the same problem. I love my Taco all and all, but definitely wish the throttle was more responsive.

hey guys im currently looking for a tacoma but i will say this isnt just with Toyota. I had a 12 Subaru Impreza 2.0 with the same issue. It is infact how its tuned the throttle table needs to be modified. Fortunately the Subaru community had tunes for this. If enough of you approached a tuner they would find it beneficial to look into it.

I am NOT knocking Toyota. I love my 19 DCSBSR (I love the truck itself, I don't care so much the 4-cylinder with auto trans.). Someone @ Toyota needs to design a engine and transmission package that is efficient, somewhat powerful, appeals to the buyer and doesn't shudder, hesitate, jerk, and stumble.

If I were you, I would be really, really, really, be careful when you decide to buy. Test drive, test drive it and re test drive it on hills, valleys, level roads everywhere you can. If you feel any hesitation, shudder or anything, test drive a different truck. Although, I am being told that apparently I am the first to have this issue with a 19 model, it is believed that NOT every 19 Tacoma is having the problems I am.

Take a look at the debacle I am dealing with right now:

This will fix the 4 banger Taco gas pedal. I have one on my truck, works great, they now have a Bluetooth model also. It has 4 modes and adjustments in each mode. This doesn't give you any more power, just makes the throttle body way more responsive, I wouldn't try to park in sport+ though, you may bend up something up! It's about $250-$300, is it worth it-I'm not sending mine back! I have an aftermarket header, drop-in filter and the truck has plenty of get up and go now! Try to find one on sale on the internet, save maybe 50 or 60 bucks. No I don't have any thing to do with them other than I like mine. They make them for Mustang's, Camaro's and Hemi's and such, but you better be ready! LOL
