Would this look cheesey ?

I'm a new and addicted member. I have been impressed with the knowledge,info, and enthusiasm available here.
I have a stock 08 Black Double Cab TRD Sport. Eventually I plan to put a 3" Tuff Country or Rev-tech lift with Add A Leaf rear. Then I plan on some black 16" or 17" wheels (something like Moto Metal 957 or XD Revolvers) and some Toyo OC M/T or Cooper STT's.
So here are my questions.
1. Would the truck look cheesey with the lift and stock wheels and tires until I wear out the originals, or can afford the new ones?
2. What do you think of the lifts I have chosen? Money is a big issue. Lots of kids and limited funds. I want the best but cheapest option.
3. What is the biggest REASONABLE tire? I don't want to trim, rub or considerably compromise mileage or power. I have been told I could go 33X12.5 by a tire dealer. That seems awful big based on the above requirements which I explained to the tire salesman.

there are guys arround running the stock size tires with a lift but it doesnt look to good (IMO). Both lift brands you have chosen are good but I would go with if i could do over again. 33" which is also a 285 is the best option for the 3" lift.

I would buy the lift and the tires first, that is if the rims you have now are gonna be the same size as the rims that your gonna buy in the future, that way you would get the same look with the tires and then when you get the extra money you can get the new rims and just swap tires.

yeah, imo it would look sort of goofy without some bigger meats under there with the 3" lift. as for an affordable 33" M/T, check out the 255/75/17 BFG Mud terrain off of ebay (where i got mine) or tirerack.com. you can get a set of 4 delivered to your house for around $490! also dont forget you'll need to do an alignment when you lift if so consider another $80 in the price to lift the truck.

 

I don't think my truck looks goofey! It's a work in progress! You gotta start somewhere... Go ahead with the lift and do what you can when you can...

 

255/75/17 is a 32.1" tire but would assure you of no trimming.

welcome to the sight. I think it will look fine for the time being until you can guy the tires/rims and get them on. I agree with Dark knight, go with toytec.

You have just cost me about $300.00. After seeing the Halo's on your truck I now have to have some of those also. By the way, thanks for your reply, your truck looks great even without beefier wheels and tires. Not cheesey at all and definately made up my mind to go for the lift ASAP.

 

I have a 2.5" lift and stock 265/70/16's. I also planned on going to a 3" and getting custom rims wrapped in 285's. But, at least for now, I have decided I like the TRD rims, current lift and I will upgrade to a 265/75 BFG AT (which will be about 1" taller than stock) when the Rugged Trails wear out. There are obvious cost benefits, no rubs or cutting and no potential warranty issues. The only thing I don't like is the width, but I am getting old and can live with that. Boring, maybe. But the truck makes me smile everytime I look at it. I have been very impressed with its off road performance. I did all my lifting, cutting, trimming, extending, lowering, SPENDING, etc on my Jeep and it rode like a tank. I have decided that my Taco looks and rides great and want to keep it that way (besides, the wife would choke me). Just some thoughts.

Anyway, from one Utah Taco freak to another, welcome homie. It appears that lifted Taco's are starting to creep up on the Utah standard Jeep TJ w/4" lift on 33's in popularity. Bad Taco's everywhere!

With the TRD and RT's... I think it can be pulled off. Anything else just looks silly imo. I'd just set aside a little savings account or something, and do it all at once. Plus, that way you wear out the current suspsension components and tires you're currently running more before getting the complete package done... and you'll get the most enjoyment out of the whole setup longer. That's just my .02. Plus it gives you something to look forward to

However, if you actually NEED a lift due to your area or if you're doing some wheeling and such now... then forget about how it looks and go for the functionality. If you're doing it just cause it's cool and eventually will be using that lift and tire setup for wheeling... I'd wait.

ok, so it doesnt quite spec out to a full 33, but when i had them mounted i rolled one into the stock room(personally know the owner of the shop) and put it next to a 33x12.50 Cooper Discoverer ST, a 285/75/16 Cooper STT, and a 285/70/17 BFG All terrain and they were all within a quarter inch of each other in height.

Hello all! I'm new to this site (like tonight), but I have already learned a ton in just a few minutes of browsing. Regarding the above BFG Mud Terrains, I bought the exact set of tires for my ride. Tires, mounted and balanced, and tax came to a total of $485.17. My tire guy said that BFG had a ton of them left over from Jeep stopping production of the Rubicon earlier than expected last year. My truck came factory with the 17" wheels and Bridgestone Dueler "street tires". These tires make a world of difference!!!!
