Yeah no point of a lock box if I have to use a key to get my key. Lol

Yeah as more sell I’ll have more buying power and maybe Trimax can make an exclusive black combo lock for me. In time.

There is a company that has a lock box that is a 4 combo style drawer system. I have one and it works great when i am at the beach or want to leave my truck somewhere and not worry about a car key

because it advertises the lock box. if you see HV there and know what that is, you'll likely find something inside. yeah, not that it's easy to steal or open, but security is security and folks don't want to draw any attention. i have mine installed but will paint the end cap black soon. I'm not keeping anything in it yet.

Okay just had a look at the website...I am excited about this lol.

    Couple questions..
    - You mentioned that it slides right through the reciever. Would it be possible to extent the length of this to basically get as much usable space? (Not keeping this limited to key storage)

    - Would it be possible to sleeve the hitch pin? I see that its tight in there, but even just tacking a sleeve to assist in keeping the elements out.

Do you have a location here in town where I can come check these out?

Sorry if these questions have been answered, still going through the thread.

Also maybe throw a link in these threads to get some local traction.

Hey man great questions! Yeah they’re available at buzz. If you pm me I can also meet you somewhere in the city to save a bit on shipping.

We’ve looked into doing a sleeve to seal off the vault completely, but it would reduce the space inside, as of now I havent heard of anyone complaining about water getting in. We are looking into doing 2.5” version that will work with 1ton trucks. As for extending the vaults, it’s not too hard but I would worry about fitting on all vehicles. I know that the current size clears everything.

I had a look under my tundra and there is maybe 2 inches from hitch to spare tire. Not really enough to make a huge difference. I woumd assume itd be about the same on a taco.
I will be picking one up really soon.

Just did a road trip from San Diego->Big Sky, MT->Sun Valley, ID->San Diego. 10 days. I put a spare key in the Vault, wrapped in cellophane and aluminum foil. We had a ton of snow, slush, and ice. Over 48hrs in MT it probably snowed a foot or two. The temps were as low as -15f. For probably about 3-4 days there was a perma layer of ice on the truck. Never got to park it inside. I think the Vault was probably shrouded in ice for a day or two. When I got home, there was some moisture in the Vault, which somehow even penetrated the foil and cellophane. Not complaining, just FYI comments. To be expected after hundreds of miles on icy roads and probably the coldest temps I'v ever been in. No issues with the lock either. Really cool product.

A couple photos of the 3rd gen fit before the trip:

That's great to hear and im glad that the vault held up well. I looked in mine and it is -20 Celsius here and there was a little bit of ice build up on the bottom inside the vault. I have left that vault in my truck all winter and have tried to really abuse it so a bit of water is to be expected. It is exposed to some of the harshest conditions and salt as well, if you guys want to keep your vaults in top condition then I recommend taking it out and cleaning the lock and vault periodically.

Thanks again for the kind words and we will continually be improving upon the design. Pictures look great too!!

Also as a side note: I was using a master lock keyed lock, which seized up and I had to cut it with a zip disk just to get the vault out. Hopefully in the coming months we will start designing a bulletproof lock that will stand up to any conditions and never seize up.

k so get this…..I go to get gas like 2 hrs ago…..get out start the pump, go to get back in the truck, LOCKED. Keys are in the truck.

Must have started the remote start get-set sequence and it locked itself while I was pumping.

    It’s -15F out and windy.

    HITCH VAULT FOR THE WIN

Lucky I had my pocket knife on me and not in the truck…..had to smash all the ice off the hitch and wedge the blade in between the vault and the hitch to get it loose. Took a little effort, but once I got it dislodged I was ale to push it out from the back of the hitch no problem.

Having that spare key in there was way better than having to wait inside the gas station for 3hrs until AAA arrived. The key was double ziplock bagged. They were frozen to the point that they cracked when I unfolded them, but the key was totally fine. Vault had no ice inside it.

The lock itself was totally fine. It was a little difficult to get the black plastic cover off the combo part, probably because it shrunk a little. I’m gonna take the whole thing back inside this weekend and clean it up. Probably put some 3M teflon spray on there too so that it’s got a barrier between the ice and the vault.

    upload_2019-1-29_19-44-35.jpgupload_2019-1-29_19-44-35.jpg

I would have taken pictures at the start of how covered in ice the whole thing was, but my phone was locked in the truck too.

Best money I ever spent. I will literally never have another vehicle without one of these. Thanks @Edmontontaco ….I’ll buy you a beer if you ever end up in Minneapolis haha

That is awesome man! I’m glad that it saved you!

It’s tricky because the vaults are in pretty harsh conditions all the time, i’ll look into some other types of coatings that might make snow and stuff not stick to it.

    Great pictures too!

I've been using this one ($7 a can at Ace Hardware) on my Backflip Revolver tonneau (sticks like crazy when it freezes up with ice) and so far it's been great. I'll hit the Hitch Vault with it over the weekend when it warms up.
