With the utility pack and 4x4 like OP is getting, pricing is around $26-27k out the door, excluding state sales tax.

I'd seriously consider the V6. It gets roughly the same mileage (at least in what they're rated), and makes almost twice the power.

I think that 4 banger will last forever. I'm not so sure about the 3.5l. It's a much more complicated engine so time will tell how really durable it is. If you're happy with the performance of the 4 cy and it fits your needs then go for it. I don't know how that configuration
holds up for resale but I'm thinking not as well. But not everyone worries about that. Good luck.

Ol' Granddad had a 78 bronco, not nearly as roomy. It was just enough for him to build a shelf between the block and fender well where he kept two toolboxes full of wrenches, spare fluids and fuses. A tin funnel hung from the radiator cross brace on the other side. I accidentally got the throttle cable stuck wide open while climbing a hill in Park City one year, we practically rebuilt the carb assembly trail-side because of that convenience.

Somewhere around 2002-2003 he mentioned he was going to sell it, that the 105k odometer was evidence that he just wasnt driving it enough to keep the tires from rotting away. I begged him for it, said I would pay whatever his asking price was. He replied that while I could probably swing the sale price, the 6 MPG efficiency and the maintenance would have left me homeless and bankrupt.

The cruise control was on the lower right side of the steering column. The salesman briefly explained it's function. It involves presetting the distance between you and cars in front of you. So I guess it would be called adaptive cruise.

I'm 90% sure this is the truck I need (wants and needs are different!). I'll think about it for awhile. I do need to replace the wife's car first. I'm pushing her towards a new Camry LE. The 1999 Olds 88 she has been driving since new has 200,000 miles and the body is rotting away. It's time for it to be replaced!

If I'm understanding the sticky posts on this forum regarding the 4 wheel drive system and the various computer/abs type traction controls it has, would this be correct-

    1. Rwd has VSC, traction control and brake controlled 'limited slip'

    2. 4high has VSC, traction control and brake controlled 'limited slip' both front and rear axles

    3. 4low has some unknown black voodoo 'traction control' to all 4 wheels

The vehicle in question is a '19 SR trim 4x4 access cab 6' box 4 cylinder automatic transmission utility package.

That’s definitely a half truth. I mean. You’re free to SAY that. But that’s not the whole story. Not even close.

Oh it's heavy, just easily tweaked back and forth. Not very rigid would be a good descriptor.

You exaggerate. Mine is closer to 950 lbs. ;) JK, but to call that hood flimsy is like calling a 44 magnum a pea shooter.

Can anyone clarify the bottom of post #28? Is this how it works?

    Too few to list.
If you decide to go buy the 4cyl SR, stick to the current tire size of 245/75R16 and just switch to a lighter alloy wheel. LCE Header alone will make the driveability a lot better with the 4.30 on the auto 4x4.

All 4x4 trim, I drove the V6 auto, V6 manual, and the 4 banger. It's surprising that the 4cyl is almost as quick from stop and go as the V6. It's only until going up hill or loaded that you're reminded it's 4cyl.

    That's my understanding as well.

Regardless of the "magic" involved in 4H or 4L, the little bugger just goes.

Look at the sticky threads for exact logic and operation of 4WD systems by model.

If I’m reading this right you test drove a 2.7L and asking a question or just a statement(s)?

Well thanks for correcting me with all those details...

The 4banger and the 6 are rated at almost he same mileage, and the 6 makes almost twice the power. Where is the half truth?
