I traded in a 17 Challenger Scat with all the technological bells and whistles, 485 HP and better gas mileage for my 19 Tacoma. I'm still getting used to not having 101 creature comforts and going from UCONNECT to Entune.

But what IS comforting is that there is a lot less to break down and the resale value of the Taco.

I guess I really meant how does the tune/download work?

Once you buy it, then what?

You register your vehicle ID with OVtune so only your files work for truck.

Recieve files, kit, and drivers from OVTune.
Load drivers on Windows machine or Bootcamp on Mac. (Windows 10 minimum)

    Read directions to flash entirely!!!

Flash truck. Idle for 10 minutes after flash.
(Included is stock tune so you can always flash back)

    Enjoy your new/better/enhanced driving truck

Okay, now explain "flash" to me.

    (Sorry, new to this.)

Connect an OBD II port to the laptop and your truck (look under where your left knee would be and see OBD port). Run the desired flash file (87 octane, 91 octane, or 93 octane). NOTE: You cannot use any octane lower than the tune file EVER EVER EVER

Total flash time after pressing the Flash (Write) button is about 5-6 minutes usually.

My 2008 TRD Off road was 24,500 msrp. I dont think inflation is fully accounting for the 10k increase in 10 year time.

I test drove a 2018 DCSB TRD OR prior to buying my 2015 because I was trying to see if I could eek into that model year within my budget. I couldn't, but I can tell you that I LOVED that 2018, it was awesome to drive and I loved the interior.

If you're having tuning issues, as long as you've driven the vehicle for an extended period, why not take it to the dealer to get the software updated per the relevant TSB?

Buyers remorse can be intense, specially first couple nights when your laying there and can't sleep, but after a few adventures and a few payments, it goes away. You can't go wrong buying a tacoma, or a toyota for that matter. We just traded the 4runner in on a Z71 Tahoe, for more room for soccer players. I got a little nauseated at the end of that day, but it too passed.

Love my 17 Taco!!! 65K and still look forward to going out with her every day.

I think you mean vocal minority. In fact I can say many former gen owners are quite pleased with their third gens.

Throw you a Borla exhaust on. You’ll like it much better.

Thanks for everyone's comments, constructive or not. I'm realistic and I'm not comparing a Tacoma to a BMW. I'm going to continue modding it and I will look into the OV Tune and perhaps the TSB. I think I'm simply making a pretty drastic adjustment from the BMW and since 100% of my 5.5k mile so far have been highway, I think the adjustment is taking longer than some that offroad on a regular basis. Perhaps I need to put down the wash bucket and use this truck as it was intended.

I tried the ECT this morning and I immediately noticed more response and higher RPM which of course will be decreased MPG. I've been averaging 19-20 Highway.

In short, I'm going to give it 12 to 18 months before I make a final decision. I planned to give to my son in 8 years (he's 8 tomorrow) and hopefully that plan works out. Naturally, I know that I will lose money if I trade it and I just lost a ton with the BMW (opposite end of the spectrum as far as value retention) so at least that helps me pump the brakes a bit.

What is the cost of the OV Tune?

I've had a wide variety of vehicles, full size truck, sports car, luxury car, a crossover, sedan and I can honestly say I enjoy my tacoma more than any vehicle ive ever owned. Its practical, good to look at, tons of aftermarket support, perfect for my hobbies of fishing and camping, oh and has an awesome forum. I really dont understand how people can complain about this truck so much. so many negative nancys out there

But you are comparing it to a BMW.

Go test drive a bunch of Trucks in the same class and see what you think of them. If you find another truck (hopefully after many test drives and research), take the loss and get that.

Life's too short to not buy and drive what you want. Why live in regret.
