You can try to take your vehicle to Toyota dealer, you might be qualified for a brand new frame.

About overheating your differentials, I can't even imagine what you will need to do with the truck to get it to that point. You must be thinking about transmission overheat, but that's also a rare case. Make sure to drive in 4HI once a month to lubricate all gears, you can just drive around your neighbourhood in straight line for that.

Do the rear differential mod if you plan on watercrossings: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/my-differential-breather-mod-photos.111954/
Don't forget to lubricate your u-joints (5 in total) and you shall be fine. There are plenty of things on this forum that will teach you how to maintain truck, just keep reading.

I’ve had it inspected twice by Toyota and denied both times, very disappointing because the frame is the biggest thing holding back the longevity of the truck. They are very strict about that there needs to be penetration. My motor mounts are very rusted out, I have some pics in a thread I made about Toyota denying my frame here

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/toyota-refuses-to-replace-my-frame.581934/

I was quoted $800+ for someone to sandblast the frame and repaint it. I don’t have the money for that, I’d love to do it myself but I don’t have a garage or the tools for that. It would be a drill wire wheel and spray paint would be the best I could do on my budget

That’s good advice on lubricating the gears, I will make sure to do that. I’ve started adding small amounts of Lucas oil stabilizer when doing oil changes to try and help out the lubrication of gears in my engine. Do I need to remove the tires to get to the ujoint ? I what should I lubricate with

Ah, damn, bad luck :annoyed:. Well, keep an eye on the frame.

For the u-joints you will need to purchase grease gun with long extension, no need to take tires off, just crawl under your truck: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/check-your-u-joints.409042/

Thank you very much for the link, I might give it a try tomorrow. Is there any other maintenance you’d recommend on a 300,000km truck

    Spark plugs, replace with OEM
    Change Front/Rear/T-Case fluids
    AT transmission flush and refill
Replace water pump, drain coolant, refill.
    bleed brake fluid, refill
visually inspect CV shaft for any damage, oil leaks.
Check your upper/lower control arm bushings
Check your callipers, all pistons must freely move
take a look at your break lines, ensure they are not totally rusted

that' just from the top of my head, there could be more things that needs to be done/checked at this milage, others can chime in.

    I’ll add the poll

For the hitch, have you tried a torch and big hammer? I know what you mean about working outside. For the most part I have done most of the work outside in the cold. Don’t know the situation, but sometimes a cheap gazebo from Walmart can atleast keep you out of the rain and what not.

As long as the frame is solid, you still have anywhere from 100k to another 300k left on that truck if not more.

As for the rust, if Toyota sprays it with there rubberized coating the frame will eventually fail. With the frame replacement they do go through the truck (since they are literally taking everything off) so they do find some parts for replacing. Some come free. Some on the other hand you have to pay. I know @NeonHeights had a rough go with his, where other have had a smooth swap. All depends on the dealer.

-just be careful for instance as I ordered a rear brake cylinder. Because I ordered the wrong one I would have had to pay the stocking fee which was worth more than the part. Only have had one issue though.

I find the RTT a bit over rated. There's pros and cons to it, but there's some 'pros' I always hear that are not pros at all like it's safer from animals.

You can get to the camp sites up in Ardbeg perry sound area no problem and then do whatever you're comfortable with.

And you can do these trails stock if you're careful just can't have fun on the off shoots.

Or just be crazy Russian. @Norilsk is pretty much stock and does a lot

For those that are coming in after the 20 people. I am still doing the $5 fee that we all had to pay. What ever money I get over the $100 group charge I will donate towards the OF4WD. Next year when we do this again. We will try and get everyone on board earlier so we can get the biggest discount.

Hey everyone, Not too worried about a timeline. I know some of you have sent the e-transfer but it hasn't come through on my end yet. Sometimes they take a long time, other times they come right in. I have updated the list. We are almost there. Considering I started collecting yesterday, almost everyone has paid which is awesome and super quick. I understand some banks are slow from the new years and some people are back to work/family stuff. I figured by the weekend we should be all good.

I have accepted e-transfers. We are all setup so I just have to send an email out once I get the rest of the transfers (we did pretty good for a day).

I’m down to go to the wing meet if we get a solid when and where. I’m coming from Waterdown area so I’d prefer not to rip far but have wings will travel

So I’m a huge idiot lol

Left my gas cap on the sidestep of my truck while I was filling at a gas station up in Belleville yesterday...

    She not there anymore

Got the old $12 NAPA Pre-Vent special so hopefully it’s good.

That’s awesome but it won’t work on my first gen cause I got the lock mechanism there. Gonna rig something up to hang it off of with some scrap 1mm sheet metal I have

Good deal, ran down to my local NAPA and just got the $12 Pre-Vent one. Haven’t had a light yet. Come to think of it I didn’t even throw a code the whole way back from Belleville to Waterdown without a gas cap...

The CEL could require two trips to set, depending on each vehicle's ECM logic.

Since you have a locking gas door (lower vandalism risk), you can try an InStant-Fill cap with a flapper. No need to remove the cap to refuel at the pump. Remove the cap to use a jerrycan. Been running one on my Subaru for a couple of years, no issues.
